As far as regular season games go, they don’t get much bigger than this. The Lady Tigers and the Lady
Panthers taking each other on, the winner goes to the CUNY
Playoffs and the loser doesn’t. – [Joe] And that’s enough of
a draw for the whole season, as you said, this matchup here tonight made possible by the great effort against Hostos here the other night, Dave. Without that victory, it still would be a
crapshoot as to whether they got into the tournament next week. – [David] Starting lineup for
Ben Newberg’s Lady Panthers: Ashley Duplan, Kiara
Atkins, Malaysia Morton, Omicamy Ramos, and Ashley Brooks. Starting for David Chambers’s
Queensborough squad: Saudia McNeil, and then the
four seniors who were honored, Daomi Burch, Anais Ward, Tiana
Freeman, and Tiffany Apple. – [Joe] But as you stated, the Lady Tigers are playing their best basketball of the season, and Manhattan has struggled, so we’ll see what takes
place in this matchup here. – [David] They’re both 3-6, Queensborough in the white jerseys, BMCC in the dark jerseys.
(whistle blows) Queensborough started off 0-5 in CUNY play and have won three of the last four. (whistle blows) And Queensborough will get the ball. – [Joe] And they lost a game down in Manhattan early in the year, a game that I think they
were in at one point. – [David] They lost by single
digits, BMCC won 57-48. That was the game Atkins, for BMCC, had 23 points, six assists, led the way, and Ashley Brooks had 13
points and 22 rebounds. Those are the girls they’re
gonna have to contend with, and BMCC is gonna have to
contend with Tiffany Apple, Two-nothing Queensborough. – [Joe] Well, there’s a girl, Apple, who’s become a big factor down
the tail end of the season. – [David] Apple was getting some tips from Khadija Carrol
before this game began, on some post play. Remember, Apple struggled the other day, and there’s a steal from Tiffany, just reached in and took it away. – [Joe] She struggled with her footwork, but she did come forward in
big portions of that game and played a big role in the win. – [David] Ward, a long two is
good, and it’s four-nothing. – [Joe] Very important for Queensborough to shoot the ball well, they shot well the
other night, by the way. – [David] And BMCC has
struggled from the field at times this year. Against Sullivan, the
other day, they shot 15%. Here’s Queensborough the other way, and McNeil throws up a wild one, (whistle blows) and there’s a missed opportunity, but they say last touched… Okay, now they say BMCC ball. – [Joe] BMCC giving it
away again up court, looking very tight here
in the early going. – [David] They will struggle at times, they’ve shot 10-32 in
a game against Sullivan early in the year, Bronx held them to 17% shooting in a game. And there’s the first basket
for the Lady Panthers, it’s Ashley Brooks
cutting the lead in half. And a little pressure being put on. McNeil, they have to get it across. (whistle blows) And there’s a foul. Kind of a bail out. First foul on Atkins. And Atkins is just about
everything for them, leads the team in points, steals, assists. – [Joe] She’s a heck of a player. – [David] And there’s a turnover. And now Atkins will take it out. McNeil almost reached in. Atkins, nice pass, the
jumper from Ramos is no good, and rebounded by Burch. And Burch will slow it up,
good transition defense. And then she finds Apple over the top, and it’s good off glass. 6-2, Apple with four early points. – [Joe] Such a big weapon for
Queensborough, as we said, over the last four or five games. – [David] Duplan, Atkins, back to Duplan for three, it’s no good, offensive rebound by Ramos. Atkins going inside, nice pass, and then the block from Apple. Looked like Morton had a
good look at the basket, and Apple came to send the shot away. – [Joe] Very alert on that play, Apple. – [David] Two and a half minutes in, Queensborough leads 6-2. Winner faces LaGuardia in the CUNY semifinals a week from today. (whistle blows) And we have a three-second violation. – [Joe] Apple in the lane
too many seconds there. – [David] Something that
plagued Queensborough the other day against Hostos. – [Joe] One thing early on, Queensborough not playing around
with that ball on the floor like they were the other night, passing the ball, and getting
the ball around much better. – [David] Here’s a
turnaround shot, no good. And Ward has it. Now Freeman crossing half-court, a little over three minutes in. McNeil to Ward. – [Joe] Well, when they
put their minds to it, they can be a good passing
team, not there though. – [David] No. Not a wise cross-court pass. Atkins doing a lot of dribbling, and has her shot blocked by Ward, atoning for the turnover
on the last possession. Have to be careful passing
against this BMCC team, quick to the ball. McNeil, corner three, it’s good! McNeil from downtown, and it’s 9-2. If the lead gets any bigger, BMCC might need a timeout. – [Joe] Queensborough in the zone after hitting another big outside shot. Boy, when they have
that outside shot going, they’re really tough. – [David] 9-2 Queensborough,
tipped, goes to Atkins, Atkins’s shot, no good,
and rebounded by Apple. She’s been a force in the
first four minutes-plus. – [Joe] I tell ya, if
Queensborough scores here, they’re probably going to take a timeout. – [David] I think so,
Freeman directing traffic, bounce pass, McNeil, back to Freeman, has Burch coming around
for three, no good, and the long rebound from Atkins. And good defense by McNeil,
keeping her in front of her. Still 20 on the shot clock. Atkins to Ramos, back to Atkins. Here’s a long shot, and it’s no good. – [Joe] It was long, yeah. (chuckles) – [David] It was long in two ways. Freeman… BMCC has a tendency to
struggle from the field, and there’s a turnover from Freeman. Just two points in the
first five minutes for BMCC. Atkins, playing off of her, but she’s
not gonna take the three. Good defense, and there’s
Morton with the missed shot, rebounded by Ward. Morton had a pretty good look. – [Joe] Yeah, they got a good shot, but their outside shooting
ice cold to this point. – [David] Ward, let’s see if they go
inside to Tiffany Apple, (whistle blows) and Ward is called for traveling. (buzzer buzzes) (whistle blows) Apple not getting a lot of touches. – [Joe] Let’s see if Manhattan
can find anything to go to, so far, it’s stagnant on offense. – [David] Morton on the bench for BMCC, and Takisha Weekes is in for
the first time, number four. Atkins, with McNeil right on her. – [Joe] Yeah, McNeil
doing a good job on her. – [David] And there’s a three-pointer. One of the two seniors
on BMCC, Ashley Duplan. And it’s 9-5. – [Joe] That was a big three-pointer, they finally found a little offense. – [David] Here’s Ward, to the basket, and good off glass! 11-5. Ward with four points. – [Joe] She would not
be stopped on that one, she rolled into the lane
and found it available. – [David] Good ball movement
by the Lady Panthers, it’s Atkins, back to
Duplan, she just hit one. That one is an air ball though. Freeman, long pass to McNeil, back to Ward, they go inside, Apple had it go off her hand. Well, they tried to go inside to her. – [Joe] And the pass
misdirected for the most part, it was too short. – [David] Duplan, back to Atkins, Ramos, (whistle blows)
Atkins making a move on Freeman. – [Joe] And Freeman got her from behind. They were measuring that zone, trying to find a crack in it, and Freeman hit her with
the body, coming in behind. – [David] Pretty quick
first seven minutes, (whistle blows) only the first foul against Queensborough. – [Joe] We like it like that,
if it’s good basketball. Good rebound. – [David] Yeah. 11-5 Queensborough,
2:50 to go in the first. McNeil, to Freeman, Ward, takes the jumper, no good, and the long rebound from Ramos. Not a lot of off-the-ball
movement from Queensborough. – [Joe] It looks like Queensborough trying to let their seniors
lead the way tonight, playing in their last home games
in the regular season here. – [David] Atkins, a long two is short, and Ward has it,
(whistle blows) and then they’re gonna
get Weekes for a foul, only the second one against BMCC. – [Joe] Reaching in to
try to rip the ball away. – [David] That’s tough,
the jumpers aren’t going, and then if you try to
go inside, there’s Apple. – [Joe] You know, we basically have talked
about Queensborough having a lot of young players, but they do have three
tested seniors on this team. – [David] And BMCC only has two returners. Burch, in front of the BMCC bench, misses. It’s tipped, and it’s
chased down by Weekes, and then Ward almost forced a tie-up. (whistle blows) Goes out of bounds to Queensborough, so she was able to avoid the tie-up, but then lost it out of bounds. – [Joe] I guess the
question as to how much we would speak about
that senior leadership is how well they played, and over the last few games, they’ve really picked it up. – [David] Had that pair of
wins against Kingsborough, then they beat Hostos here the other day. – [Joe] And Apple played a
very big role in that game. (whistle blows) Now Ward came out well tonight, and did they call that a defensive foul or a push off on that? Defensive foul, against
Ward, driving into the lane. (whistle blows) – [David] That’s the first foul on Ramos. Freeman, was left alone
but missed the shot. (whistle blows) And they’ll get Burch for the foul. – Daomi running back the other way. Queensborough’s done a very good job defensively on Manhattan, McNeil’s done a good
job on their top scorer. – [David] Duplan, thought about the shot, the long two is no good, tipped, and BMCC will get a second chance. Atkins, had the shot rim out, seemed like she had the good touch. – [Joe] Yeah, that time
Freeman was on her, she got the step into
the lane, but no basket. – [David] Burch, back to Freeman. Queensborough’s offense hasn’t
exactly been lights out. They go inside to Ward, off glass. – [Joe] Right on cue, Dave. – [David] Ward outscoring BMCC, she has six and Queensborough leads 13-5. – [Joe] They made a good pass, they got Ward down in the lane there, and an easy basket. – [David] This is the
biggest lead for QCC, Atkins trying to answer back, cannot, and Queensborough ball. Down to 35 seconds to
play in the first quarter. – [Joe] Only five points for
the Borough of Manhattan. They’re gonna need a lot more
offense to win this game. – [David] McNeil, good defense, Freeman swings it to Burch, (whistle blows) and a foul before the three, wave it off. – [Joe] Off the ball. – [David] That one would’ve been big. May have been another
three-second violation. BMCC could hold for the final shot, 15 seconds to go. Down to eight seconds, Duplan, to Ramos, the jumper is no good, rebounded by Apple, and that will do it
(buzzer buzzes) for the first quarter, a very good quarter for the Lady Tigers, 13-5. – [Joe] Yeah, a very good
quarter for the Lady Tigers, they did everything they wanted to do, held BMCC off the board, and they capitalized when the
situation was given to them. They hit the outside shot, they got the ball inside
on a few big plays, and they’ve looked like the
better team to this point. But there’s a lot more to go in this game. – [David] There were three
Queensborough players who put up double-doubles
against BMCC back in November, when Burch had 14 and
10, Ward had 14 and 15, and Freeman had 10 and 11. So BMCC knows those are the players they’re gonna have to shut down, but Tiffany Apple wasn’t in that game, and they’re getting to see her now. – [Joe] And she makes a big difference. I mean, she fills that
lane, she made a block, she scored a couple of baskets in there, so, you always have to be
aware of Tiffany Apple, and that may have changed
the composition of this game a little bit from the first one. So, now Manhattan has to
find a way to deal with her, and, as we said, they’ve been struggling offensively very badly in the first half. – [David] BMCC could be a little happy they’re only down by eight. – [Joe] Absolutely. – [David] The one thing that, even though BMCC beat
Queensborough in November, the Lady Panthers were only
1-12 from downtown in that game. – [Joe] They didn’t play
very well in this quarter, so you’re right, they are
fortunate to be down by eight. – [David] Queensborough in the 2-3 zone, Duplan to Atkins, Ramos to Atkins. Good defense in the zone,
still 15 on the shot clock. Atkins, tough jumper is no
good, chased down by Burch. And Melissa Sobers in now
for Queensborough, number 33. McNeil, to Sobers, and Sobers
had it go through her hands. – [Joe] She just misjudged
that ball and never caught it. – [David] We’ll see how long Tiffany Apple stays on the bench for QCC. There was a wild shot, may have been looking for
some contact, but no whistle. Up ahead to McNeil, and McNeil will take the
jumper and miss badly. – [Joe] That would’ve
been an opportunity there for Queensborough to lengthen the lead, that would’ve been a big make. – [David] BMCC is gonna need some baskets if they wanna hang around. Go inside, out, Atkins’ jumper long, and batted by Burch outside to Duplan. And Duplan left alone for three, and she hits another one. And it’s 13-8, Duplan with
a pair of three-pointers. – [Joe] That’s one that
they needed very badly, finding some offense finally. – [David] Freeman to Ward. Ward in the lane, and had
her shot blocked by Brooks, and then Sobers is there, but misses, (whistle blows) and then last touched by BMCC. – [Joe] Good pick up by Sobers, but she could not convert
close to the basket. – [David] That’s why I think Tiffany Apple might see a lot of minutes in this game. Doesn’t have the same feel
with her on the bench, as Ward misses. And Atkins with the rebound, and now a fast-break chance for BMCC, but Burch stripped it from behind, Atkins gets it back and puts it in, and it’s 13-10. – [Joe] Well, you see
with Apple on the bench how the whole game changed now. – [David] Two on one, Sobers, and tipped. Couldn’t get it to Burch. – [Joe] Become a different game, little more fast paced for Manhattan now. – [David] Nice move by Brooks,
but her shot is no good, (whistle blows)
an air ball, but BMCC was saying, “Well,
there was some contact, “that’s why it fell so far short.” – [Joe] You would think, but she kinda rushed that shot too, it didn’t have much of an angle. – [David] Long pass to Sobers, and gives it up to Ward. – [Joe] Dave, a mark difference in
Queensborough without Apple, the way they run their offense. – [David] They still haven’t scored in the first two minutes and 40 seconds of the second quarter. Ramos to Atkins, Duplan, and there’s Brooks, off glass. (whistle blows)
Timeout Queensborough. And it’s 13-12. – [Joe] Nice little run by BMCC, seven to nothing in that
second quarter so far. – [David] And Tiffany Apple will go in when they resume play. – [Joe] Well, here’s the
difference between being a top team in the women’s ranks in the
junior college of the CUNY, you have to have more than
an Apple performing well, you need a team concept, ’cause when you play against Bronx or you play against LaGuardia, you know you’re gonna be playing teams that they are well-rounded,
they have a lotta players, so, alright, we’ll give Queensborough
their due to this point, they’re up by one in this game, but they’d like to perform when Apple is on the
bench a little better, they haven’t done that so far. – [David] Remember, when
LaGuardia came in here, and Queensborough was up
by nine late in the third, and Apple spent a lot of the
second half on the bench, and LaGuardia made
their run and won by 18. – [Joe] She’s become a very
important player for them, they cannot afford to sit her too long. – [David] She was getting some tips from Khadija Carrol before the game. – [Joe] Well, a seven-nothing
run by BMCC to open up (whistle blows) the second quarter here at Queensborough. – [David] And now some full-court pressure by the Lady Panthers. McNeil gets across half-court. They go inside, Marva Dudley-Adams misses, but Burch trying to chase it down, (whistle blows) and they say she couldn’t save it, but it was last touched by BMCC. – [Joe] She was trying to
get that ball on the in line and never really did get
it while it was in bounds, so they called knockout against BMCC. (whistle blows) – [David] And Apple called
for the offensive foul. – [Joe] And now the ball will go over to Manhattan on the turnover. – [David] So BMCC trying to take their first lead of the game. Duplan with a nice fake on McNeil, and the three no good, tipped, and there’s Brooks. Gets it to Atkins, Brooks to Ramos, Ramos
for the lead, no good, and Queensborough with the ball. – [Joe] Queensborough
trying to find some points here in the second quarter. – [David] They go inside, Apple, the spin move, the shot, no good. Still 13-12 Lady Tigers, Duplan, another three, no good, and rebounded by Marva Dudley-Adams. Four minutes in, Queensborough still
scoreless in the second. McNeil to the basket, no good, Apple with the offensive
rebound, her shot’s no good, another rebound, and another miss. – [Joe] Apple in there to
get two offensive rebounds, but she couldn’t score. – [David] Atkins being guarded by Freeman, Duplan, back to Atkins,
10 on the shot clock. Brooks, back to Ramos, Ramos
had the shot blocked by Burch. – [Joe] Burch with a good block there as she was setting up to
shoot it on the right side. – [David] McNeil, they go inside to Apple, (whistle blows) and Apple is gonna be
called for traveling, it plagued her in the Hostos game. And tough defense by BMCC, even when you shoot 20%, you can stay in any game
when you play tough defense. – [Joe] That’s exactly right, and they’re not allowing a point thus far in the second quarter. – [David] And we’re halfway through. Duplan, the long two for the lead is no good, and rebounded by Freeman.
(whistle blows) And then they’ll get
Duplan for a reach-in foul. – [Joe] Well, you know, Queensborough came out
looking very sure on offense, looking very smooth, but over the past couple
of minutes, anything but, over the past, what, five minutes. (whistle blows)
– [David] And McNeil overthrows Apple. So we said they had to
get her back in the game, and now it seems like they’re
freezing everybody else out and trying to get it to
her a little too much. – [Joe] They’re out of sync now, they’re not doing anything
well offensively for anybody. – [David] And they still lead. Atkins, pull-up jumper is good, and BMCC takes a 14-13 lead. – [Joe] That is their first
lead of the game, Dave. – [David] They’ve scored all nine points in the second quarter. Freeman, to Apple, and Apple misses at the basket and then hits the floor
and holds her knee. That’s not what
Queensborough wants to see. – [Joe] She’s really having a tough time, with baskets that look
like gimmes right now. – [David] Weekes, nothing
but white jerseys around her, and it’s ripped away by Freeman. And Freeman with the nice move past Ramos, but can’t finish, Apple, the
offensive rebound, and a miss, another shot, and it’s good! And Queensborough, a little over six minutes
into the second quarter, finally scores. – [Joe] Apple using her height
(chuckles) to stay in there, finally get the basket. – [David] Atkins tries
to answer back, misses, there’s Brooks with the
board, and the basket. Ashley Brooks getting some
rebounds against Apple. – [Joe] And it’s been transformed into a back-and-forth game now. Oh.
– 16-15, almost a turnover. McNeil left alone, a long two is no good. Burch, the offensive board,
(whistle blows) but then an offensive foul. – [Joe] Burch going after that ball, and she got a good piece
of the Manhattan player. (whistle blows) – [David] And a timeout by BMCC. A big three minutes and 16
seconds before halftime. – [Joe] Well, after being
scoreless for, what, about five minutes of the second quarter, the Lady Tigers finally
scored, grabbed the lead, but Manhattan grabbed it right
back, and they’re up 16-15. – [David] I said BMCC was happy to still be down by single digits, I think Queensborough’s happy to only be down by one right now, the way they’ve been executing on offense. (buzzer buzzes) – [Joe] Trying to get
it back in sync, David, it’s been out of sync for the most part after a very impressive start. (buzzer buzzes) Right now, David Chambers
describing to them, rather indignantly, what they need to do. Can’t be happy with the last
five minutes of this game. – Look at the leading scorers, Ward and Apple have six
apiece for Queensborough, Duplan and Brooks have six apiece for BMCC.
(whistle blows) – [Joe] Pace got a little faster, BMCC taking advantage of it now. – [David] Quick game,
only eight combined fouls. Ramos, go inside, Brooks double-teamed, and get it to Atkins, Atkins
over Apple, and it’s good. Atkins has six, it’s 18-15. – [Joe] Yeah, and she’s
come alive as of late. – [David] McNeil overthrows Apple. – [Joe] And the problems
continue for Queensborough. – [David] Nice move by Ramos. Weekes’ jumper no good, and Marva Dudley-Adams with the rebound. – [Joe] Queensborough outplaying Manhattan in that first quarter, but they’ve been thoroughly outplayed here in this second quarter. – [David] 13-2 Lady
Panthers in the second. Burch, thought about the three. Freeman, down to eight on the shot clock, Freeman in the lane, to the
basket, off glass, no good, and rebounded by Brooks. Not getting anything to
fall in this quarter. – [Joe] A lotta quickness
on the Manhattan side when they play defense,
that to their advantage. – [David] Atkins… 10 on the shot clock. Here’s Duplan for three again, (whistle blows) count it, and the foul! A chance for a four-point play. – [Joe] Not good right now, David. (buzzer buzzes) Not good. The foul tacked on to
the three-point shot, which went for Duplan,
who has been dealing, along with Atkins, and they have changed
the texture of this game. – [David] They said that’s
the second foul on Burch on the scoreboard, I thought she had three. Duplan finishes the four-point play, all of the sudden, it’s 22-15. Queensborough playing on their heels, and Apple is back on the bench. – [Joe] That’s what
happens when you only score two points in the quarter, and there’s 1:38 to go. – [David] Burch misses a long two. 90 seconds to go in the first half. – [Joe] Queensborough playing perhaps one of their worst quarters
of the season right here. – [David] At least in the past few games. Atkins, puts it in. – [Joe] And the barrage continues. – [David] 24-15. Freeman, Ward, tough one is no good. – [Joe] And she just threw that shot up. – [David] Down to 45 seconds
to go before halftime. – [Joe] So, Manhattan
with only five points in the first half, but, boy, have they turned that around. – [David] That shot is no
good, and saved in by Morton. Great effort there, down
to five on the shot clock, Duplan might have to put up another. (whistle blows) And they’re gonna call traveling. So Queensborough could hold for
the final shot if they want, 28 seconds to go. – [Joe] Their only basket scored by Apple here in this quarter, one basket for Queensborough. – [David] That gave ’em a 15-14 lead, and since then, BMCC has
scored 10 points in a row. McNeil… – [Joe] You have to get
a very good shot here. – [David] Marva Dudley-Adams couldn’t hit, and they still have 10 seconds for BMCC. Atkins the other way, it’s gonna move down to five, four, Atkins trying to beat the
buzzer, throws it to Ramos, have to throw it up,
(buzzer buzzes) and makes it in at the buzzer! What a shot by Ramos, her
first points of the night. – [Joe] They really, really
staggered Queensborough in that quarter, I mean they just
outplayed them thoroughly, outscored them 22-5 in the second quarter. – [David] 22-2. – [Joe] Excuse me, 22-2, right. – [David] It was even worse than you said, and the one you said was pretty bad. – [Joe] Yeah, they had five
points, Queensborough– – [David] Yeah, BMCC
had five in the first. – [Joe] Yeah, had 13 at the
end of the first, right. – [David] Yeah, and this was the quarter from
hell for Queensborough, 22-2, and the exclamation point, Ramos, a highlight-reel three
off glass as time expires. – [Joe] 22-2, a 20-point turnaround, and you have to wonder if this
might be too much of a task for Queensborough to overcome. We’ll see, we’ll see in the second half. – [David] So at halftime, BMCC
leads Queensborough 27-15. (buzzer buzzes) So the second half about to begin, Queensborough trailing by 12, and they came out of the locker room with only a minute and a half to go before the second half began, and everybody sat on the bench, except Daomi Burch,
who is shooting around. You know, we were here last year, in the Region 15 Playoffs, and Queensborough was down by
15 at the half to Rockland, and that team looked lifeless, and they came back to win in overtime. – [Joe] Well, I’ll play
devil’s advocate with you, they had better players last year too, so whether these Queensborough players (whistle blows)
can do that, we will see as we go here. – [David] A few returners. – [Joe] But they had Carrol, they had the tough girl at guard, they had others. – [David] Burch for three
in the corner, it’s no good. They led 13-5 after one, and then BMCC outscored
them 22-2 in the second. – [Joe] They stay in
the zone, Queensborough, which Manhattan able to penetrate at the second-quarter mark. – [David] Brooks
double-teamed, out to Ramos, who beat the buzzer in the
second quarter, misses that one. And we’ll see when BMCC starts to try to run some clock on offense and when Queensborough starts
to get out of that zone and do some pressing. – [Joe] Well, they got
a good look again, BMCC, not able to convert on it. – [David] Ward inside, Apple, (whistle blows) and they’re gonna get
Tiffany Apple for traveling. – [Joe] Yeah, again having
problems with her footwork, as she did in previous games. – [David] That’s been the achilles heel for her the last weekend. Atkins… BMCC looking to extend the 12-point lead. Brooks, step-back jumper over Apple is no good, (whistle blows) and Morton had a chance at the rebound and couldn’t haul it in. I mentioned earlier BMCC
was only 1-12 from downtown against Queensborough
in the first meeting, well, Duplan hit three, and Ramos hit one at the
buzzer in the first half. A big weapon for the Lady Panthers. – [Joe] Let’s see if Queensborough can take advantage right
now of that turnover there. – [David] Apple, at the
basket, and good off glass. 27-17. – [Joe] Off a good assist by Freeman, she made a great pass to get it in there. – [David] BMCC scored the last 13 points of the second quarter. Nice pass, but they couldn’t finish, Brooks with the rebound and the basket. And 29-17, two minutes into the third. – [Joe] And Brooks gets,
what, 13 rebounds a game, and pulled down a big
one offensively there. – [David] BMCC looking for
that home playoff game, in tournament, as it… Ward had it go through her hands. – [Joe] They continue to look
out of it, Queensborough, just not sharp, as they fell behind in that
second quarter by plenty and continue to make
some lackadaisical plays. – [David] Just about four
points in the last 13 minutes, as Brooks, they find Duplan
alone in the corner for three, it’s no good, but Brooks chases it down. She’s really outworking Apple after that first quarter.
(whistle blows) Atkins, – Drew the foul there, yeah.
– was fouled, yep. – [Joe] Well, they haven’t been able to get anything back in gear
again, David, to this point, looking just as shaky as they
did in the second quarter. – [David] They’re saying
that’s number three on Burch. Remember, I thought she had one earlier, which I guess wasn’t, so
we’ll go forward with three. Atkins has nine points. – [Joe] The worries are now building up on the Lady Tigers’ side, they can’t afford to get any
further behind in this game. – [David] Number 10 has
10 points, and it’s 31-17. (whistle blows) And a foul. It’s only the first on Morton. BMCC has done a good job
staying out of foul trouble, so has Queensborough, other than Burch. (whistle blows) And reset the shot clock. – [Joe] Very difficult right now, they have to take a collective gulp and get it together in the
next couple of minutes. – [David] 31-17, three
minutes into the third, Burch, a long two is no good, and rebounded by Brooks. (whistle blows) And last touched by Queensborough. This is danger time. – [Joe] You know one way the Lady Tigers can get back in the game, they can shoot themselves
back in the game, but they gotta hit the shots now. – [David] And they need some stops too. And here’s Morton,
dribbled it off her foot, and then saved it in, but to Freeman. BMCC, no need for turnovers now. If they play mistake-free basketball, they’re gonna be in really good shape. Burch in the corner for
three, and it’s good! Her first points of the night, 31-20. – [Joe] Need a few more of those. – [David] Made the move past Ward, Atkins, nice dribbling,
and the shot is good. Atkins with a dozen points, it’s 33-20. – [Joe] Nice-looking player, Atkins. A variety of moves she has. – [David] Freeman, to Apple, they feed Apple under the basket. Apple has a quiet 10 points, it’s 33-22, teams trading baskets now. Ramos trying to save it in, (whistle blows) but she was on the line.
– Not able to, yeah. (buzzer buzzes) (whistle blows) – [David] There’s still
5:56 to go in the third, that’s a lot of time. – [Joe] Well, they have to take
advantage right here, Dave, they’ve got the momentum a
little bit in their favor. So, Apple is over there talking to Head Coach
David Chambers right now. Let’s see what they come up with here. – [David] McNeil, to Freeman, they go inside, Apple, off glass, and she has half of the
Queensborough points tonight, 13. – [Joe] Three times she’s
been assisted by Freeman. – [David] And a near-turnover,
and now it is turned over, Burch to Freeman, Freeman,
and Ward loses it, and now Weekes
(whistle blows) goes on the floor, it’s a tie-up, and the ball will go to BMCC, a lost chance for Queensborough, but it is a single-digit game again. – [Joe] Yeah, they got the
crowd into it a little more, that is going to help if they can do that. – [David] So a little 7-2
run for Queensborough. The defense chant in the crowd. – [Joe] They’re picking up
(whistle blows) their defense now, something they must do. – [David] And they’re gonna get
Freeman for her second foul, and also, I think– – [Joe] Playing much more aggressively, they were in the zone before, but they’re coming out now, going after the ball a little more. – [David] I think the possession arrow should be pointing
(whistle blows) towards Queensborough now, and there’s another foul. – [Joe] That’ll be on McNeil, I believe. (whistle blows)
– [David] 33-24. – [Joe] Let’s see where Manhattan
goes with the ball here. – [David] They go to Duplan
for three again, and it’s good! – [Joe] Wow. – [David] 36-24. – [Joe] No hesitancy on
that shot for Duplan. – [David] Freeman, they
find Burch, McNeil, they go inside to Apple,
and that rims out. – [Joe] That would’ve been the fourth time they hooked up in this quarter on that same play right there. – [David] 4:40 to go. – [Joe] Have to get out
defensively right here. – [David] Ramos, down to
10, she goes in the lane, Apple with the block. Loose ball picked up by Ramos,
they’re down to six, five, Freeman forces a tie-up.
(whistle blows) And it will be Queensborough ball. Queensborough gets a stop
that they desperately needed. – [Joe] And they’re still
down by double digits. – [David] Ward, to McNeil,
to Freeman, to Ward, at the free throw line, a little step, the shot is no good.
(whistle blows) We’ll have a foul. – [Joe] That’s against Apple, inside.
– Mm-hmm. – [Joe] She gets her
second for Queensborough. – [David] 4:10 to go. – [Joe] Tigers trying to stay
aggressive on defense here. – [David] Atkins, had the
shot blocked by Apple, but Atkins gets it back
and wisely dribbles out, down to eight on the shot clock though. Atkins to Weekes, down to three, Ramos tries to beat the
buzzer again, it’s no good, but a second chance for the Lady Panthers, and they’ll take it out. – [Joe] Aw, that’s a
tough rebound right there, getting away. – [David] Three and a half to play. Duplan another three, and it’s no good. McNeil with the long rebound, and going all the way to
the basket, but missing. (whistle blows) They say last touched by BMCC, so Queensborough will get a second chance, but you have to convert those if you wanna get back in the game. – [Joe] Yes, you do, Dave,
(whistle blows) and you have to lay that in right there. – [David] There’s a three from Burch! 36-27. – [Joe] Or you have to do that from Burch. – [David] They’re being sure not to foul. And Burch with the steal!
– Whoa! – [David] And Burch with the layup, and it’s 36-29. – [Joe] Keeping the press on here. – [David] Five straight points from Burch, (whistle blows) but then they’re gonna
get Burch for reaching in, no, they say a foul.
– Timeout, yeah. – [David] Excuse me, timeout. The way the whistle blew, you saw Burch reach in and then the whistle
blew right after that, I thought they might’ve
gotten her for another foul. – [Joe] It’s a BMCC timeout, they wanted to get the ball
across the mid-court line, their lead reduced to seven now, and a little bit of a
surge here by the Tigers, see if they can keep it going. – [David] Well, only down
seven after all of that, after all of the struggles. And Burch,
(buzzer buzzes) who was scoreless in the
first half, has seven now. – [Joe] A little bit outta time, as you’re trying to get
the motor started again, and started to kick in a little bit. Couple of steals helping
out in the process there. (buzzer buzzes) – [David] Eight points
for Burch, actually, hit the two threes and then
the steal and the layup. – [Joe] Have to keep it going
though, that’s the thing. Still down by seven, outplayed very badly
in quarter number two, which has, to this point, (whistle blows)
put them in this hole. Outscored 22-2 in the second quarter, so, they can’t let up, David. – [David] 36-29, Duplan
another three, and it’s good! – [Joe] She’s been deadly out there. – [David] 16 points. – [Joe] That jacks the lead up to 10, and now they give it away. – [David] Atkins misses the layup though. Still a 10-point game. Ward, has her shot blocked by Brooks!
(whistle blows) What a defensive play by Ashley Brooks. – [Joe] Yeah, she saw the
hesitation there by Ward too, Ward didn’t take that right to the basket, she hesitated, Brooks cut
in there, ate that shot up. (whistle blows) – [David] Try to get
something towards the basket, and a foul. – [Joe] Freeman working
her way into the lane, getting that little pass inside there. – [David] Hey, Duplan has been the player of the game so far. Haven’t been too many free throws tonight, Freeman with her first point, it’s 39-30. – [Joe] Every little
thing is gonna count now as we get down to the 2:09
mark of the third quarter. – [David] 39-31. 2:05 to go in the third, some pressure, Brooks overthrows Ramos. (whistle blows) Pressure leading to a turnover. – [Joe] Another opportunity
here for the Tigers to snake back into this game a little bit. – [David] Two minutes to go. McNeil, they go inside to
Appel, Appel the spin move, but the shot is short,
gets her own rebound, and misses again. As it’s hit, Burch
almost caused a turnover, good pressure by Burch. Almost a 10-second violation, (whistle blows) and there it is. Referees were aware of the clock more than the BMCC players. – [Joe] Well, the pressure
taking a little bit of an effect on Manhattan now, (whistle blows)
so we’ll see if the Tigers can make hay out of this here. – [David] Ward, outside, Burch to Freeman, Freeman to Ward, cutting into the lane, (whistle blows) and they’re gonna get a foul against BMCC. – [Joe] Ward drawing the foul, as she’s found it tough in
there to get the shot up. – [David] So Ward will go to the line. – [Joe] Gets two shots on this. – [David] Ward makes the first. 1:30 to go in the third quarter. – [Joe] This one now could make it a six-point game again, Dave. – [David] Mm-hmm. And Ward makes both, it’s 39-33. Ramos, to Atkins, up ahead to Weekes, and
Weekes lost the handle on it! Queensborough the other
way, Freeman, in a crowd, bats it to McNeil, McNeil,
a tough jumper is no good. But an offensive rebound by Ward. It’s tipped, I think they were trying to
force it too much to Apple. Now they have to get back on defense. Ramos got behind the defense
and puts it in off glass. – [Joe] Yeah, they did not get back on defense efficiently on that. – [David] 41-33, final minute
of play in the third quarter. Up ahead to Burch, who’s
left alone for three, and it’s good! Burch from downtown, she
has 11 in this frame, five-point game. 41-36. Duplan, they double-team her. She’s hit enough big threes in this game. 30 seconds to go in the third, running a bit of clock here, Atkins, looking for somebody
to come to the ball, making a move on Freeman, past Freeman, and the shot is no good,
and rebounded by Apple. – [Joe] Now you have a chance to make it a three-point game here. – [David] 12 seconds to go in the third. Freeman to McNeil, Ward,
tough shot, too strong, and rebounded by Brooks. Still time to beat the buzzer. Ramos, will she get it off? (buzzer buzzes) It would’ve counted, but it’s no good, and Queensborough cuts a
12-point halftime lead to five. – [Joe] Good job by the Lady Tigers of maintaining themselves, getting back into this game. They only have a quarter
to work with here, and they’re down by five, we’ll see if they can bring
it the rest of the way. – [David] Well, it was 14
during the third quarter, so, you have to like
where they are somewhat. That was a football-looking
third quarter, 21-14. They only scored 15 in the first half, and then they scored 21. – [Joe] That’s right. – [David] And BMCC, the Lady Panthers, hoping they could do better
than the Carolina Panthers did against the Broncos two nights ago. – [Joe] Oh, you bet, you bet. And the Tigers are on the bench right now trying to absorb their amount of water and listen to David Chambers about what they did well
in that third quarter that kind of changed the
course of things a little bit. Of course they have to
continue to go after it here in the fourth quarter. – [David] And they’re
gonna have to take away the three-pointer from Ashley Duplan. – [Joe] She’s been spectacular
from outside with that shot. – [David] And Burch with 11
points in the third quarter, can she keep that up in
this final fourth quarter? (buzzer buzzes) – [Joe] We shall see if all
of those things take place. There’s a quarter of basketball to try to get down to the
CUNY tournament in Manhattan in about a week’s time. – [David] 10 minutes
separating the Lady Panthers from a date with the LaGuardia Red Hawks. Queensborough hoping to set
up an all-Queens matchup. – [Joe] And that would
mean they’d be taking on LaGuardia down there.
(whistle blows) – [David] It’s all Bronx
in the other semifinal, Lady Broncos and Hostos Lady Caimans. Atkins’ baseline jumper is no good, but a rebound from Ramos. Atkins left alone, and it’s good. – [Joe] She keeps gunning
them though. (chuckles) – [David] 43-36. – [Joe] She keeps shooting them, Atkins, she doesn’t let it stop her. – [David] And a near-turnover,
Marva Dudley-Adams, who we haven’t called
her name a lot tonight. Freeman, Dudley-Adams asking for it, they go to McNeil, Burch, back to Freeman, 15 on the shot clock. Marva Dudley-Adams for three, no good,
(whistle blows) and it gets caught up in the
netting and the shot clock. – [Joe] Not a good start (whistle blows)
for Queensborough here in this fourth quarter. – [David] And they may have to (whistle blows)
do a lotta pressing. And Marva Dudley-Adams will tie her shoes. (whistle blows) Brooks, with Freeman on her, good ball denial, but
they get it to Ramos. Wonder if they run a little clock here? Duplan, to Atkins, back
to Duplan, another three, and it’s no good. Might’ve been a dagger if that went. Freeman, on the floor, saves it, then throws it to the Panthers, and it’s Morton to Brooks, back to Morton, (whistle blows)
the give and go, count it, and the foul! – [Joe] Killer play right there! That one hurts, David. – [David] What a time
for Malaysia Morton’s first points of the night. – [Joe] Now the Tigers, they cannot afford another letdown here. And they find themselves back down by 10 on that three-point play. – [David] 46-36, 8:45 to go. Freeman, to Burch, back to Freeman, launches
a three, and it’s good! Freeman from downtown. – [Joe] Freeman steps up with a three. – [David] It’s 46-39,
Queensborough hanging around. Now they’re gonna need
some stops with 8:20 to go. Ramos–
– [Joe] Well, they’re gonna have to stay
on that ball right now. – [David] Atkins to Brooks, double-teamed,
(whistle blows) and Freeman forces a
tie-up, ball goes to QCC. – [Joe] Freeman getting
that very intense look on her face right now, which can change the game. She is a really tough player. – [David] Daomi Burch, to Freeman, see if they try to find Burch in front of the Queensborough bench. McNeil, to Freeman, dangerous pass. – [Joe] A little lackadaisical on that. – [David] McNeil, a
long two, it’s no good, and rebounded by Ramos. She had the space. – [Joe] And she could’ve moved up and made that a shorter shot. – [David] Brooks was bumped
by Apple, but no whistle. Burch, under 7:40 to go. – [Joe] The Tigers trying
to work their way back from near oblivion in this quarter. – [David] McNeil, Marva Dudley-Adams, (whistle blows)
forcing her way inside, Brooks got a piece of the shot, but she also got a piece of Dudley-Adams. – [Joe] Drew the foul. – [David] Which Brooks
doesn’t seem to think so. – [Joe] Gotta give credit to Dudley-Adams, strong move into the
lane, if not a quick one, she maintained her balance
and was able to draw the foul. – [David] Dudley-Adams looking for her first point of the night, and has it. They’ve been pretty good from
the line in the second half, 46-40.
– Yes, they have, and that has been one of
their weak points this year. They can make it five
again, David, right here. Nope, they don’t. – [David] 46-40, 7:20 to go. Still hanging around, only
a two-possession game. – [Joe] They’ve gotta
stay on that ball now, (whistle blows) commit a foul on it. – [David] And Freeman
is called for her third. A tough call, but a good one.
(whistle blows) Looking from our vantage point. – [Joe] The Lady Tigers trying to snatch one away here at home. – [David] Morton, to Atkins, Atkins over Apple, it’s no good. Saved in by Ramos, but
it’s saved to Freeman. Has to watch out from behind. Freeman to Burch, Marva Dudley-Adams
thought about the three, Burch takes the three, no good, Apple with the rebound,
but can’t put it back. – [Joe] Wow. – Good defense.
– Big opportunity for Apple there. (whistle blows) – [David] And a timeout taken by BMCC. Apple has missed a lot of shots
right at the basket tonight. – [Joe] Yes, she has, and that
has made a difference here, it has, in this ballgame. – [David] 6:39 to go, BMCC leads 46-40. – [Joe] If you take these shots that Apple has missed inside, Queensborough could be ahead
in this game right now. But, you don’t lay it all on her doorstep, (buzzer buzzes) it’s been a combination
of poor play by the Tigers that got them into this position. So, what you’re looking for now is a very big outing from Apple (buzzer buzzes)
in the final 6:39. That’s a lotta pressure on her. – [David] Looking for a
big effort from everybody in the last 6:39.
– Yeah, yeah. But particularly her, if you’re gonna get the ball in there, you have to put that ball in, and she had an opportunity right there. – [David] And a big effort
offensively and defensively. (whistle blows) – [Joe] Well, you have
to keep playing defense if you’re Queensborough. (whistle blows) – [David] And a foul called
against Queensborough, we’ll see if it’s in the act of shooting. – [Joe] It is. She was driving into
the lane with a floater and got hit on the play. – [David] Ramos misses the first. How about that three-pointer
she hit to end the first half? Spinning and off glass. – [Joe] A very big play, yeah. – [David] Ramos misses both, but BMCC gets the rebound,
and Brooks gets the basket. 48-40. (whistle blows) And they say Dudley-Adams
stepped on the line. – [Joe] Every time Queensborough seems to get close in this game, something rears its ugly head, and they don’t get any closer. – [David] BMCC might be
smelling the blood in the water. Atkins, they’re gonna run a little
clock now, 6:10 to go. – [Joe] Why not? – [David] They go to the basket, (whistle blows) and they’re gonna get Apple for a foul. So that’s always a tough
decision for the coach, do you try to shorten the game? Because the danger is you might – [Joe] Well… – [David] just stall your own offense. – [Joe] But when you
have an eight-point lead and you wanna maintain it, that is probably the best course to go, but you have to hit
your free throws, also, if you get fouled. – [David] Well, Ramos missed
two and Morton just missed one. (whistle blows) Morton splits the free throws. (buzzer buzzes) 49-40. – [Joe] Nobody said this
is an easy game, but, Queensborough has made too many mistakes at key times in this game. – [David] And that was almost one, but Freeman has it back. And Freeman going all the way to the basket,
(whistle blows) and is fouled. – [Joe] That was the proper thing to do, she had the angle, nobody in position to stop her. So we’ll see if she can
make the free throws here. Only the second foul on Duplan, they’ve done a good job of
staying out of foul trouble, as Freeman makes the first. – [Joe] And 5:59 on that clock, Dave, and Queensborough’s problem now is how do you get the
most out of that time, down by eight here themselves, how do they get the maximum out of it? – [David] 49-42. – [Joe] You have to pick
up your defense, obviously. – [David] Going with some trapping, Brooks to Ramos, in the corner, Duplan thought about it, they’ll run a little more clock. And it’s Atkins directing traffic, swings it, Duplan left alone
in the corner for three, and it’s no good, and Freeman with it. Freeman to the basket
again, has the shot blocked! – Great play!
– What a play by Atkins! – [Joe] Good play, yeah. – [David] And Atkins all
the way to the other end, and puts it in off glass,
a four-point swing. And Atkins has 16. – [Joe] Atkins taking it in her own hands coast to coast on that. – [David] And a steal. And they’re gonna run a
little time off the clock. – [Joe] She’s the ball handler also. – [David] They go inside,
outside, Duplan, a long two, no good, and chased down by Burch. Five minutes to play. – [Joe] Yeah, that woulda
really hurt right there. – [David] A long three is no good, and then Burch with the rebound, outside, Marva Dudley-Adams,
a corner three, no good, Apple, an offensive rebound, Burch for two, took that one flatfooted, Apple with the rebound, a miss, another rebound, another miss, another rebound, another miss, and Ward chases it down. – [Joe] Playing their hearts
out, but nothing going. – [David] Ward alone in the
corner, they didn’t see her. Dudley-Adams for three, she misses. (whistle blows)
Had about five chances and couldn’t score. – [Joe] Very frustrating
for Queensborough, they used a lot of energy on that flurry and they get nothing out of it. They get a foul. (whistle blows) – [David] It was a tie-up,
BMCC had possession, – Oh, tie-up, yeah.
– And we have a timeout. – [Joe] Yep. And they lose the ball. – [David] Every chance to get back in it. – [Joe] And every minute
that they stay behind by the eight, nine points does not give them a chance
to come back in this game. – [David] They missed
about five or six shots on that possession. – [Joe] Very frustrating,
very frustrating. – [David] Doesn’t get much
more painful than that. – [Joe] Well, they’re
going to have to continue to play that pressure defense, hope for some turnovers
here, and convert right away, and get themselves back
in striking distance, say about five points. – [David] I thought the first minute of this quarter was huge ’cause Queensborough had cut it to five, and BMCC upped that to 10 pretty quickly.
(buzzer buzzes) – [Joe] Yeah, but you notice, every time they cut it,
they make a bad play, or they throw the ball
away, or miss a close shot, so they have not played
well enough to win, Dave, for the most part.
(buzzer buzzes) They know that. So now they’re really going
to have to blitz BMCC. – [David] The five on the
court for Queensborough: Freeman, Burch, Ward, Dudley-Adams, and Apple.
(whistle blows) – [Joe] They really have to press now. – [David] Ramos doubled-teamed,
and there’s a steal. Ward, going to the basket, (whistle blows)
and Brooks touched it last, but a good defensive play. – [Joe] No foul on that. – [David] Nothing comes
easy for Queensborough. – [Joe] Been a tough night for
Ward, nothing easy for her. – [David] No. – [Joe] And Apple, (whistle blows)
you saw how many misses on rebounds she’s had. – [David] Burch for three,
it’s no good, tipped, Freeman with the offensive board,
(whistle blows) and a foul against BMCC. – [Joe] A rough play right there. – [David] That’s the third foul on Ramos. – [Joe] No free throws on it though, (whistle blows)
just an in bound coming up. – [David] BMCC still
has another one to give. Go over the top to Freeman. Dudley-Adams, (whistle blows)
over Brooks, and they get Brooks for another foul. – [Joe] Yeah, she wanted to
get that ball in to Apple, did not have her available, Apple never made herself available, so then Adams cut across the lane, and a good pickup there by Freeman, she got her the ball and
got her the good shot. – [David] Dudley-Adams hits the first. They’ve been playing catch-up for a while, the last lead they had was 15-14. – [Joe] Every time they
get within eight or seven, they slump back again though. – [David] Dudley-Adams
is short on the second, but Freeman is there. Ward to Burch, it was almost turned over, Freeman for three, no good, but Dudley-Adams chases it down. Back outside to Freeman, they’re gonna have to score here, it’s Ward for two, it’s Ward for zero, but Burch saves it. (Joe chuckles) – [Joe] Tough shot for Ward.
(whistle blows) – [David] And they say Burch… Hm, it wasn’t deflected away from Ramos, she just bounced it out of bounds. – [Joe] Obviously that is
not Ward’s game right there. – [David] And Queensborough’s
had their chances. Down to 3:30 to go. Morton lost the handle on it, (whistle blows) and then an unnecessary
foul in the backcourt, a gift for Queensborough. – [Joe] Now it’s the fifth foul, so Freeman’s gonna come
down and shoot ’em. – [David] Wow, what a gift. A foul 80 feet away from the basket. – [Joe] Have to make the free throws and then go right back to that press. If she makes the free throws, it becomes a six-point game again. – [David] It was a
five-point game after three, but it hasn’t gotten closer than that. – [Joe] No, that’s been their problem, I don’t think they’ve been able
to reduce the number enough to have a chance to win this one. – [David] Free throw shooting
has kept them around. What’s been a weakness all season has been a strength in the second half. – [Joe] Well, you gotta go with whatever strengths you have today. – [David] Freeman makes both, it’s 51-45. Still hanging around. Atkins to Brooks, and Brooks going all
the way to the basket, and it’s good. – [Joe] Aw, that one
bounced in for Brooks. – [David] 53-45. 3:05 to go, Ward crossing half-court. – [Joe] Well, give credit
to Manhattan, Dave, every time they’ve been pressured, they’ve come back with a big basket too. – [David] Queensborough can’t answer back, (whistle blows)
Brooks touched it last. Good effort from her tonight. (buzzer buzzes) (whistle blows) McNeil going in for Queensborough, Dudley-Adams to the bench. – [Joe] And don’t forget Queensborough so thoroughly outplayed
them in that first quarter, and then from then on, (whistle blows)
Manhattan has had the better of it. – [David] And Queensborough
did outscore BMCC by seven in the third quarter. And there’s another foul
against the Lady Panthers. – [Joe] They did, but it wasn’t enough to
break down a huge letdown that they had in the second quarter. – [David] You don’t see that too often, outscore a team by eight in
the first, seven in the third, and you’re still losing. – [Joe] You always run into a problem where you’re using up a lotta
energy to get back in games, and that is going to hurt you. – [David] Ward misses the first. And Burch hasn’t scored
in the fourth quarter. – [Joe] Their hopes are sinking, Dave, with 2:51 on the clock,
they really need something. – [David] Ward splits, 53-46. Here’s some pressure. And they beat it, it’s Duplan, who dribbles out, Freeman right on her. (whistle blows)
They go inside, and traveling is called on Morton. – [Joe] Well, how many
times have you said, “Here’s an opportunity for Queensborough,” but they have not been able
to take advantage of them. – [David] Freeman, McNeil, (whistle blows) and a reach-in foul, and Ben Newberg isn’t
happy on the BMCC bench. – [Joe] Not a good foul at all. – [David] You know, “Why are we fouling?” Queensborough can take points off the lead without time coming off the clock. And that’s number four on Ramos. – [Joe] And McNeil, a pretty
dependable free throw shooter, she’s not bad. – [David] Queensborough
shooting about 50% as a team, and it’s 53-47. 50% on the season. – [Joe] Nibble, nibble, nibble, that’s what they have to do right here. – [David] McNeil makes both, it’s 53-48. 2:35 to go. They get Morton,
– A lot of pressure now. – [David] who slows it up. Morton, nice move on McNeil. They’ll run some clock, 2:20 to go. BMCC trying to hold on
to a five-point lead, (whistle blows) and Atkins is fouled. It was good defense, but
there was a bit of contact. – [Joe] That’s the dilemma
they are in right now, you know, you need
maximum effort on defense, and then you’re gonna commit a few fouls, let’s see if she can make
the free throws though, Atkins.
– One more on Freeman and she’s done. Atkins at the line for two. Makes the first. – [Joe] She’s a real
quality ballplayer, Atkins. – [David] Might be able to salt
this game away at the line. – [Joe] She does well from the line, as you said, she passes the ball, she can handle the ball, and she scores. – [David] Free throws are
split, it’s 54-48, 2:15 to go. 2:10 to go. Ward, almost turned over, Burch saves it, and now double-teamed, gets it to Ward. Pass is tipped, and it’s
chased down by Atkins, Atkins all the way to the basket, (whistle blows) and Burch with a nice defensive play. – [Joe] Real hustle, the Lady Tigers needed it. Setting it up for the playoffs, David, when you have, you know,
Atkins out there tonight, has probably been the player
that can really set up (whistle blows)
her own offensive game, she’s the most talented player out there. – [David] Apple blocks Brooks’s shot, (whistle blows)
but she gets it back, count it, and the foul! Brooks with the big-pressure shot. – [Joe] That might’ve done it right there. The Lady Tigers have been
fighting such an uphill battle, and you knew it was gonna take a couple of swoops by
Manhattan to close it out, there was one of them. – [David] 56-48, 1:50 to go. – [Joe] Now you don’t have much time. – [David] McNeil to Freeman, somebody’s gonna have to put up a three. Freeman throws up a two, it’s no good. (whistle blows)
And then there’s a tie-up, and Queensborough will
keep it with 1:34 to go. – [Joe] It doesn’t look like
there’s enough possessions for the Lady Tigers, (whistle blows) enough possessions for
them to come back now. – [David] McNeil gets it to Burch, to Freeman, McNeil, it’s a long two, and it’s good. 56-50. Now they’re gonna need a stop. – [Joe] And a few threes or a
couple of spectacular plays, (whistle blows)
like that. – [David] And if that’s on
Freeman, that’s number five. – [Joe] It is. She’s gonna be out of the game. – [David] She is,
(buzzer buzzes) Freeman fouls out with 1:18 to go, fouling out with nine points. – [Joe] Well, the Tigers
played such a inspired game here the other night against Hostos, (whistle blows) to ask them to come back tonight and play the same intensity, it may have been a little too much to make it into the tournament, that a big order. – [David] Not over yet. – It’s not over yet.
– BMCC still needs to make their free throws. And Brooks is at the line
for two, makes the first, she has 15 points tonight. – [Joe] But Manhattan has
had a step on them all night, – [David] Mm-hmm. – [Joe] just a little bit of a step, and it’s been enough. – [David] So Brooks
splits the free throws, Apple with the rebound. 57-50, up ahead, Dudley-Adams, Dudley-Adams, it rims out, Apple with the put-back, but she misses. But McNeil gets it, puts
up a three, it’s no good. (whistle blows)
And Dudley-Adams loses it out of bounds. Queensborough has missed about 67 shots, from right there.
– [Joe] Well, that last play epitomizes
the night for Apple inside. – [David] One minute to go, do you, well, do you think about fouling
if you’re Queensborough? (whistle blows) There’s one, and if that’s on Apple… Well, they say traveling, they say traveling before the contact. If they want any chance to come back, they need to score here. – [Joe] Definitely going
to take a remarkable set of circumstances right now
(whistle blows) – [David] Dudley-Adams, to McNeil, McNeil going inside, (whistle blows)
the tough shot is no good, but they get the Lady Panthers for a foul. Tough call. – [Joe] I won’t fault the
Lady Tigers on one thing, they’ve played very hard in the last 18 minutes of this game, no doubt about that, never really gave up in this game. – [David] McNeil misses the first. So, do you start fouling? – [Joe] Absolutely, because you just don’t have enough time on the clock to play defense. – [David] McNeil misses both. Ramos, somebody’s gonna have to foul. (whistle blows) And Ward, I don’t know
if she wanted to foul. – [Joe] She’s upset, she was gonna go after the ball, but, at this point, what do you have to lose? – [David] That’s only
the first foul on Ward, so not like she’s in foul trouble. – [Joe] Manhattan shooting
the ball well from the line over the last few minutes though, so they would like to
make these free throws and – [David] Ramos makes the first. – [Joe] cement the deal further. – [David] Makes both. (whistle blows) And a timeout taken by Queensborough, with 44 and 7/10ths seconds to go. – [Joe] Well, they have traditionally had some very good teams at
Borough of Manhattan College, and this one not a bad one, but– – [David] Looking like
a CUNY Playoff team. – [Joe] Queensborough came in tonight with every opportunity to claim that spot, and they’ve just been a step behind (buzzer buzzes) the Panthers all night, they’re just not enough
to get over the hill. – [David] It’s been Atkins with 17, Duplan with 16, and Brooks with 15, and they’ve done the damage. – [Joe] They’ve gotten within seven, within five,
(buzzer buzzes) seven, five, eight, but they’ve never been
able to close the deal after they lost the
lead in that first half. – [David] You tend to look at the mistakes towards the end of the game, but it’s that 22-2 second quarter which really did the damage. – [Joe] They’ve had a
lot of opportunities too, a lot of in-close opportunities, (whistle blows) second chances, just haven’t gone. – [David] Dudley-Adams, to Ward, they’re gonna need some threes. Ward misses. (whistle blows) And a foul from Dudley-Adams. Looking more and more like this is not gonna be
Queensborough’s night. – [Joe] Well, this team doesn’t miss
the tournament very often, and it looks like they’re
gonna miss it this year. – [David] First time in a long time. – [Joe] But of course, they’ll
be involved in regional play. – [David] Yeah, we
shouldn’t overlook that, I think they’re sixth
in the region right now. – [Joe] No, that’s important. – [David] We won’t really
know what the standings are until next week, ’cause there’s still a
lot of out-of-town games. It’s possible that Queensborough
will face Bronx Community in the regional playoffs. – [Joe] And they’d play
at Bronx Community. – [David] It’s also possible
that they’re gonna have to go all the way up to Sullivan. – [Joe] Which is a long way. (whistle blows) – [David] 60-50, 34 1/2 seconds to go. So this isn’t the end of
the Queensborough season, as bad as this one feels. – [Joe] And it does feel bad, ’cause they came in tonight, as we said, and they had every opportunity (whistle blows) to make it. – [David] And a missed shot from Ward. – [Joe] Just wasn’t
their night, that’s all. – [David] You also look
back in the early season, when they struggled, they kinda dug themselves a hole when they lost the first five CUNY games. And they lost to BMCC by single digits, and they lost to Hostos by single digits. (whistle blows) One final foul given. – [Joe] Well, let’s give Manhattan credit, they stepped up when they
were struggling a little bit, and they were able to do enough tonight to be the better ball club. – [David] Brooks, very good
work down low against Apple, Duplan with one big three after another, Atkins, great game, 17 points, and even Ramos, not a lot of scoring, but she hit that big three at the buzzer, and Morton, not a lot of scoring, but she had that three-point
play in the fourth quarter which was huge.
– Yep. And Atkins, maybe one of the top one or two guards in the conference, scoring, she can do it all. – [David] It’s 61-50, 10 seconds to go. Burch, a high-arcing three is no good, (whistle blows) out of bounds, ball to BMCC. – [Joe] Of course, when you face Bronx, and we’ve spoken to the head
man at Bronx many times, you’re facing a lotta
pressure defense, intensity, (buzzer buzzes)
and that’s what you have to go up against. (whistle blows) – [David] And BMCC is
going to the CUNY Playoffs. – [Joe] Alright, they’re going to get the
matchup with Bronx now, right? – [David] Well, they get the
matchup with LaGuardia first. – [Joe] Oh, LaGuardia, I’m sorry. So, that should be interesting, I think LaGuardia has the
better squad, but we’ll see. – [David] LaGuardia won all 10 regular season conference games, but you never know, – You never know.
– and BMCC will have the home court in that game. – [Joe] That’s right. And when will that be, Dave? – [David] A week from today. – [Joe] Alright. – [David] And Queensborough will, I guess, stew over this
for a week and a half and then get back to
the regional playoffs. – [Joe] Well, kudos to the Lady Tigers for making a run at it
at the end of the year, they could’ve packed
it in a few games ago, but they kept in it. And it just wasn’t their night, they were beaten by a team that played a little bit better tonight, and the Lady Tigers
did not help themselves in many respects. – [David] So congratulations
to the Lady Panthers, who go to the CUNY Playoffs. Queensborough will be back
for the Region 15 Playoffs. For Joe Masi, this is
QCC-alum David Russell, the final score BMCC,
61, Queensborough, 50.
