The Voice coaches IMPRESSED by Olympic athlete | STORIES #31

What do you do for a living?
– I’m an Olympic long jumper. Wow! You went to the Olympics? Wow check you out. I’m Jasmine Sawyers, I’m 22 and I’m a
professional long jumper. I’ve been doing it for about ten years.
I competed the last Olympics in Rio. As a kid I’d watched the Olympics and thought
that’s what I want to do. I finished eighth. I was annoyed at the
time because I wanted more… …but eighth in the Olympics was a good
result so for now I’ll take it. Athletics is my first love, it’s my main
passion, it’s what I’ve been working for… …for years but it’s not the only thing in
my life. Ever since I was a kid I’ve also
had a great love for music… … and it’s hard to have two things that you love, … …because how do you give one
the attention it deserves, … … but my motivation to do well
in music is shot up. Being on the show is a big deal. When I walk out onto the track I’m in control.
I get to decide everything that happens… What’s your name?
– I’m Jasmine. And what do you do for a living?
– I’m an Olympic long jumper. You went to the Olympics? – Yes, yeh. Wow check you out!
That’s dope. It is.
I must say. And how long have you been singing? I used to do musical theater as a kid, but
I stopped when I was about 14… … to focus on the sport and then 2.5 years ago,
I picked up the music again. Which one have you been doing longer? Long jump by a mile. You did long jump on a mile? Like this short. How did you do in the Olympics? I came eighth. Thank you. It wasn’t what I wanted, but at the time
I was very angry, because… … u know seven whole people beat me.
I mean, I’m 22 so hopefully… … there’s gold medals in the future. Anyone who goes to the Olympics is a
hard worker, she’s gonna listen,… … she has desire, passion, commitment.
– It shows some mad determination. Jazmin, she be jumping, she’s gonna take this
competition to the next level… … sometimes you gotta leap.
Ah, Olympic type stuff.

  1. Although Miss Sawyers was ultimately eliminated in the sing-off portion of last year's "The Voice" competition, she assuredly is a WINNER!

  2. I just LOVE the fact that people are made of so many things. I mean, sport, music, literature, maths, science, cinema, whatever, there are just so many things to be passionate about and that's GREAT ♥♥ Congrats Jazmin, you will go far with that beautiful voice and determination ! 😀
