Take a tour with Anna Meares Velodrome

Hi, welcome to the Anna Meares Velodrome. I’m Anna Meares. [music] The gradient of the velodrome has to be seen to be believed. To the eye it looks like a wall of wood but it’s steeped at 43 degrees. And here at the very centre of the banking of the 200 metre line, is where track sprinters will hit their max speeds anywhere between 70 and 80 kilometres an hour. [music] Just crossed the start finish line into the first bend. Sitting in the middle of the track. Eventually I’m going to work my way right to the top like a sprinter would in a 200 metre time trial to qualify for the individual sprint match. The lower you are, the shorter the distance you’re travelling. [bike noises] Come around the final straight. Throw to the finish line. Race is done. [music] In the sprint you can move all over the track. From the top to the bottom and back to the top again. It’s all up to the rider where they want to ride and how fast they want to be going. It’s been a while, I’m puffed! [laughs] [music]
