[Music] When I found out that I was going to have the opportunity to be a part of the Western Bulldogs Football Club while studying honours here at Vic Uni, I was really excited, I was jumping up and down, pretty happy. My name’s Jack Hynes, and I’ve recently completed honours at Victoria University. As part of the honours project, we would have coursework once a week, or once a fortnight, and then in addition to this, I was collecting data on the players, as far as their goal kicking and the duration of their pre-performance routines and weather it was related to success. It was a bit overwhelming at first, kind of a new person to the club, but I settled in pretty quickly. Having Sam as a supervisor was really good because he was not only a great researcher and writer, but he also allowed me to see the impact my research had at the club. Well Jack’s a really hard-working student as well as a really, really high quality student. And so those two things that we really look for with taking any student into our, into our program here. And a really good testament to that is the fact that our coaching group really started to develop a great level of trust in him as the season went on The biggest highlight was working AFL Grand Final day, where I was privileged enough to be working in the Western Bulldogs coaches’ box. [Music, crowd cheering, sports commentating] If I remember, there’s two minutes to go and Picken kicked that goal and we all got up and started running down to the bench, and down to the oval. We’re all lined up along the bench and I can’t even remember that last minute of play. But it just all feels like a dream, and when that siren went, it was really amazing. [Music, crowd cheering, sports commentating] The best part was just the sense of belonging you felt throughout the year to the club. Just felt like you’re a part of it and that you’re all working towards something bigger than yourself and it was just really special. [Music]
