Sports Hero Day

Sports Hero Day

Sports Hero Day happens once a year. We
bring one thousand six graders from all over Utah County to BYU we give them the
opportunity to interact with their favorite BYU athletes as well as student
volunteers that take them to rotations with the athletes. The kid get to BYU and they don’t really know what to expect and their volunteer is kind of
the liaison so they show them the ropes, show them where all the
athletic facilities are introduced them to athletes, stuff like that, that they
can’t really do themselves they may be afraid to. Really, their volunteer that’s over them is
kind of a kind of role model and someone that they look to throughout the day. The biggest thing for me is just the experience that you have in connecting
with the kids. It’s a rare opportunity here at college that you get to have
that kind of connection with someone, let alone a kid and it really is so much fun
to see the kids that maybe they love sports maybe they don’t they get to come
here and just experience BYU and college life from a different
perspective so it’s awesome to see the kids light up when they see their
favorite athletes and when they get to meet new people that they wouldn’t
normally meet so it’s awesome just to experience the program and to see
things from different point of view. Music playing…
