I play full back currently for the MMU first team rugby union. My course is sports management but I’m a placement student as well, so I currently work on behalf of MMU Sport. I work in sports development it’s all about engaging with students that maybe don’t take part in sport. I lead on the Active Campus timetable, we try to get people that don’t do sport into sport. Working in the sports industry I get an inside view of how important sport is to the University. Whether it’s competing on a performance level or whether it’s down at the participation level, just trying to increase numbers. We all came together as a group in late August time September for the preseason and played 15-a-side all the way through to early May with the playoffs. Fortunately, we come through the playoffs unscathed and has led to us been champions of that. The background of us heading out to China is the fact that rugby 7s is being majorly prioritised in China at the moment. 7s is a new sport within the Olympics so China are looking to develop that as much as they can. The fact that we’ve got a lot of experience in rugby especially rugby 7s I think they’re looking to feed on our knowledge.
