Road to Rampage – Riding with Legends – Ep. 3

cow is like the youngest guy to ever win rampage he was just a little kid when he won in 2004 and here he is trying to do the repeat he wanted to think twice and he’s a World Cup racer free ride at the same time super steezy look at the speed it was goes for the biggest and and he just gotta be super sick to watch Tom Ben Steenburgen is at a physiotherapist appointment to determine how quickly you’ll be able to get back on his bike after a hard crash injury that feels a little weak – yeah yeah you can start riding just just trying to crash tom has permission to get back on his bike but the difference between just riding and competing at the top-level little sport it’s a big one he heads to Whistler for Crankworx the biggest mountain bike festival of the year to test his shoulder so I saw the physio and they told me I could start riding this week and it’s Monday now and told me that I could kind of start riding some little jumps Oh didn’t work feel like I’m a little behind on Trish and they can’t even flip with it’s a poem little sore after hitting the foam bed a few times but pretty impressed with how strong it is already tom is the new guy on the c3 team he’s the next cam Zink but probably even our Lea 18 years old so look out our relationship is different for sure I mean we we become each other and we chirp each other but I think at heart we we love hanging out together and we love riding he’s just always fun to ride with he’s always throwing down it’s kind of like riding with your brother he’s always just pushing you oh I’m just here Crankworx to hang out with everyone start riding again and get motivated from watching everyone ride what although Tom appears to be riding well testing his shoulder at the foam pit proves to be a bad idea the next morning it’s much worse and forces him to remain on the sidelines kyle has been a top pick for the speed and style victory since its inception but the top spot is always already one person who has stood on his share speed and style podiums is Kyle’s good friend Ken Zeke I don’t have a sibling that rides but I definitely have some of the baddest dudes that helped push me makes it pretty easy when you’re best friends with Zink cam Zink versus Kyle’s rate this is like a final right here in these two guys Tom big mountain riders looks like Teddy might be able to screw up a tiny bit of speed oh it helps out a ton to be able to have a rider that’s got in tune with what your riding style is well riding so much together and growing up riding we know how each other rides with both of us winning rampage you almost need to have that other rider to help you out you drop in on certain sections and you’re like I don’t know if it’s good or not and say one of us will drop in first and radio to the top and tell them hey that’s good to go on the wind it definitely helps out a ton when you have that communication with the year he won I know I was right next to the side the whole time to back him up with confidence he does the same thing for me and with last year’s event I was pretty sure I was coming down this one line and so on and he’s like I think this line would be way better it looks gnarly er so I’m like stand back and look at it and see what you think and so he helped me out with finishing the rest of the top part of the line and that you know in turn gave me the win as well there’s only been a couple years where I think and I didn’t build a line directly together most the time when we work together on a line it comes out and one of us are victorious those two gentlemen will be matching up here in just a second the advantage on that matchup going to Kyle straight but you heard what cam Zink said I want to beat him here we go Kyle Strait looks to have a tiny bit of a gate jump line up into that first cliff jump Oh sink over rotates the 440 but it’s going to be Kyle Strait taking it for run number two in advancing on there’s not a time when one of us doesn’t want to be better and I was tough going in second round round eight if you’re gonna get in sync on force you blow it a wheel and I surprised house riding really good it’s all about doing what you needed it doing just another piece a next guy move on now he’s in the finals and he has the advantage to do enough vision to win it here we go this is for all the marbles Kyle Strait versus greggwatts the final race here here we go Kyle gets this snap out of the gate wrap it around corner one two three the gate section there’s Greg with a bar spin well looks like he linked up into that berm a little quicker than come God and God has got it yeah corner cut pushes through point zero four seconds who’s gonna be taking the gold and the gold goes to Kylie I’m stuck man I’ve been trying some system since this whole thing has been started I’ve been trying to get a win I’ve been garbage or third basically and five sick to get a win Andre oh and Kyle enjoyed the rest of Crankworx festivities before heading to their final contest before rampage Kurtz orgies ha fest and metallic BC but enroute they make a quick detour and meet up with a mountain bike legend Robbie Bourdon has been the pioneer of big mountain riding since it all started and has had a considerable influence over both Kyle and Andre to his career Robbie takes the boys for a little history lesson – one of the birthplaces of this style of riding born attack on Draya and I out – like a super old spot off the river out of town out of Nelson what do you think Robert you’re gonna drop from here Robert this year will mark Robbie’s return to rampage and in Bobby’s 15 plus year career one thing is certain you can never count them out as a contender we’re going down the cliff she’s gonna be over there more why’d you use the whole thing as a berm and then you could get over it no problem I’m gonna try to do these line then I saw on the way up and I hope we have been Sun Goes the hike was insane rub these lines is a bit tough sometime you don’t know exactly how soft everything is right away get to ride supersoft lines like this too often all it doesn’t quite exactly cross over to rampage with just writing things out of your comfort zone and rotting me you haven’t written before really help out for when you do get the rampage that you’re gonna be running well still at your top when you’re not comfortable but the history lesson complete it’s time to harvest where 2012 rampage Japanese Hertz or D has built some of the biggest jumps in the history of competition you you
