Welcome to sports everyone. It’s one of the busiest Saturday’s in the fall high school season. Local teams continue their postseason push towards state. TAKE VO TAKE VO WIAA VOLLEYBAL REGIONAL FINALS – DIV. 3 Lets start with volleyball regional finals…..division 3 C-FC at Aquinas. 1 set….Pirates up 3…..the
set up to Lexy Peterson…huge smash can’t be handled…C-FC leads 16-12. Later…set point for CFC….Melani Skroch is at the net to finish it off…..Pirates take it 25-18…. Set number 2…..Aquinas will show some muscle…Courtney Becker with spike…finds the court….Blugolds up 5. Aquinas with a chance to take the 2nd set….the bump to Lexi Donarski….off the blocker for the point….game tied 1 set a piece. This one goes to 5 sets…and it’s Cochrane Fountain City who survives and advances. Jumping to D4….1 seed Royall taking on 4 seed Alma/Pepin. Starting the first set off strong Royall’s Emma Gruen aces the ball bringing the Panthers up 1-0 Later on in the first set Alma-Pepin’s Erin Seifert aces the ball giving bringing the Eagles score to 13 behind the Panthers with 21 Still in the first set Royal’s McKenzie Baeseman spikes the ball racking up another point for the Panthers who go on the win the first set 25-16. Royall moves on with a 3 set win. More in Division 4….3 seed Hillsboro at 2 seed Bangor. First set. Hillsboro’s Brookelyn Borchardt setting to Molly Crandall for the back row attack. Hillsboro in control. 19-12…. But back comes Bangor. Emma Wittershaus with the tip for the game point. Cardinals come back to take set one. 27-25…. Second set. Bangor’s Ashley Lockington sets to Arianna Hundt for the spike. Cardinals lead 9-6. Later in the set. Hillsboro on the attack but Wittmershaus is there for the block. Bangor takes set two. 25-20. Hillsboro takes game 3 and 4…Cardinals win the deciding game 5 to move on. We travel now to Seneca…the top seed Indians face Southwestern. 2nd set action. Seneca gets the ball to Liv Swanson. She pounds the ball off a pair of blockers. Seneca leads 19-11. Later, Set point for the Indians. Erin Sime serving. She gets the friendly roll off of the net…it falls for the ace. Seneca leads 2 sets to none. It was all Seneca again in the third set. This time its Haley Wall. She finds the back line to put Seneca up 19-14. Seneca takes down Southwestern in straight sets. 3 BLACK RIVER FALLS 4 EAU CLAIRE IMMANUEL Other local volleyball team in action. Division 1…Holmen loses to Waunakee in 3 sets Division 2….Black Rivers Falls loses to Mosinee in 5…. And Division 4…Eau Claire Immanuel loses to Clayton. The Holmen boys soccer team tackling one major milestone after another this season. First came the program’s first ever conference title. TAKE VO TAKE VO WIAA BOYS SOCCER REGIONAL FINAL- DIV. 2 Holmen now taking on River
Falls in the regional championship game. Vikings unable to score in the first half with a strong wind at their backs. Only one minute into the second half and River Falls takes a one-zero lead after the Gage Espanet goal. But instead of panic. Holmen responds just four minutes later. Quintin Olson centers a pass. and Jacob Clements is there for the score. One-one the score. 12 minutes left in regulation. Clements leading the Vikings on a break-out. and senior Evan Espelien scores what turns out to be the game-winner. Holmen wins 2-1….first regional championship in program history. WIPE SOT TAKE SOT OUTQ:..slot it in TAKE SOT HOLMEN SENIOR At the end it was all just kind of a scramble. We were trying to get one up because this is something we’ve never done before, we’ve won regionals. It was a great ball from Jacob to Max, and Max plays it through and hits it off to me faking out the whole defense and I just slot it in. WIPE FSG D2 & D3 1 NEW RICHMOND DIVISION 2 DIVISION 3 Next for Holmen is a trip to New Richmond. who beats Onalaska three-nothing. And Sparta loses to McFarland 5-2 WIPE VO TAKE VO TAKE VO WIAA SOCCER REGIONAL FINAL- DIV. 4 2nd seed Arcadia hosting a regional final against Northland Lutheran 20th minute. A penalty kick for Arcadia as Eriberto Padilla finds the back of the net. 1-0 Aracadia leads…. Now in the 40th minute. Erick Mora dishes to Fredi Ignacio. he’s able to sneak it past the keeper and in for the goal. 2-0 Arcadia at the break… Second half. now a 3-0 lead and Arcadia would add to it with this boot by Alex Merino. Arcadia goes on to win 4-1 and is crowned Regional champions. DIVISION 4 1 COLUMBUS CATHOLIC Other division 4 action…Aquinas loses at Columbus Catholic…1-nil. WIAA cross country sectional races taking place today. 3 point 1 miles for a chance to qualfiy for the state meet next week in Wisconsin Rapids. TAKE VO TAKE VO CROSS COUNTRY – MENOMONIE Division 1 sectional in Menomonie….here is the girls race. Onalaska’a freshman Kora Malecek….time of …good for 2nd. Here comes the second Malacek triplet….Lydia in 6th place. And Amalia Malacek runs in for a time of …13th place… Hilltoppers finish second as a team….they are heading to state. TAKE SOT 1-6 OUTQ:. and do our best… TAKE SOT ONALASKA FRESHMAN It’s going to be really exciting because we’re all freshmen. So it’s gonna be pretty cool so see how well we do. Uhh it definately was a goal to make it to state so we’re just gonna try and go there and do our best. TAKE VO TAKE VO CROSS COUNTRY – WESTBY Division 2 Westby Sectional. Girls race Familiar sight here…GET’s Dana Feyen and no one near her….crosses the line first in . She’ll be tough at state next week. . Westby TAKE SOT OUTQ:…WHAT’S TO COME so overall I think it’s gone really well and I’m exited moving forward into the state meet and then hopfuly i’ll be compeating at a midwest reagionals were I hope to possibly qualify for nationals so I think it’s gone really well so far and i’m exided to see what’s to come girls finish second…they are heading to state as well. TAKE VO Let’s check in with the boys….we get a local and team champ. Westby’s Hayden Fredrickson wins the race with a time of And the Logan boys are the sectional champs with 66 points. TAKE SOT OUTQ:…ON FROM THERE LOGAN SOPHOMORE we’ve ran on this cource before but this is the first meet we came to so we were all kind of used to the cource at least so that helped us a lot so I don’t know we just went out there and took it out pretty quick and then kinda held on from there WIAA CROSS COUNTRY SECTIONAL DIV. 2 1 PRAIRIE DU CHIEN 50 2 MCFARLAND 79 Division 2 sectional in Platteville. Prairie du Chien girls get 4 runners in the top 10….win the team title with 50 points. WIAA CROSS COUNTRY SECTIONAL DIV. 3 1 AQUINAS 79 2 CASHTON 89 1 DURAND 45 2 LUTHER 60 INDIVIDUAL CHAMP: DAVID VANNUCCHI, LUTHER Division 3 sectional in Durand. Aquinas and Cashton girls go 1,2…both heading to state. On the boys side…Luther takes second….David Vannucchi is the individual champ. WIAA CROSS COUNTRY SECTIONAL DIV. 3 1 LANCASTER 52 2 MARSHALL 56 INDIVIDUAL CHAMP: HELEN CARSTENS, NORTH CRAWFORD 1 DARLINGTON 41 2 NEW GLARUS/MONTICELLO 129 Out in Fennimore…no team qualifiers, but we do have a sectional champion. North Crawford freshman Helen Carstens takes first place with a time of , qualifying for state. ***BRYAN*** Welcome back. The UW-La Crosse football team has a chance to get back in the win column this afternoon after suffering their first loss of the season last week. And what a win it would be….because number 3 UW-Oshkosh is in town. TAKE VO TAKE VO WIAC FOOTBALL This matchup is between the top 2 offenses in the WIAC. 1st quarter. Drew David finds Nick Holcomb on the slant in the endzone for 6. Game tied at 7-7. Fast forward to a minute left in the 2nd quarter. Its David to Holcomb again for the touchdown. Eagles up 21-14. However OshKosh would answer three plays later. To tie the game up going into the half. The Eagles would pick up where they left off from the first half. Drew David makes a few defenders miss, and finds Holcomb wide open down field. He would go down at the two yardline….. The very next play, Jalen Clark goes right up the middle for the score to put the Eagle back on top 28-21. However UWL unable to stop the big plays today on Defense. Sam Mentkowski finds Brett Kasper for the 82 yard touchdown pass to put the Titans up 35-28 late in the third quarter. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx UW-Oshkosh, simply too much for the eagles today. As they win……42-28. TAKE SOT OUTQ:Finish off the win Our guys feel really good, they were just really fired up in there, we’re really proud of the way we are playing. We’ve lost to two really good teams and we’re right there…we’re right there, and we’ve got to find the plays that we need to make to win that on both sides. And you know I think we have some of those plays throughout the game, and we have got to find a way to get some more of those things and finish off the win UWL HEAD COACH TAKE VO TAKE VO NSIC FOOTBALL Homecoming game over in Winona….11th ranked Winona State taking on Wayne State. Second offensive play of the game for Wayne State. Nick Pridgeon sack not only a safety. it knocks starting quarterback Zach Osborn out of the game. But behind sophomore backup Aaron Bleil. they take the ball down the field on their next drive. Tipped ball goes right into the hands of Nate Rogers. Wildcats lead 7-2. Wayne State now up 13-to-9 when Darren Beenken finds Holmen grad Greg Rooney. Winona State re-takes the lead. And they control things the rest of the way. Big punt return sets up the Eric Birth touchdown run. #11 WINONA STATE After a slow first quarter…Warriors win 42-19….Winona State moves to 8-0 on the season.
