Lake-Bena in the state quarterfinals. And what a ballgame this one was. Time winding down in the first half. Landon Skalet connects from downtown as time expires. Trojans trail by one at the break. 2nd half action. Ben Ansell gets the ball in the post. He draws a foul. Count the basket RP up 29-25. The Panthers would answer with a 15-6 run. Arnold Kingbird knocks down the open jumper to put Cass Lake-Bena up 45-39. However, The Trojans would fight all the way back. They trail by three with 10 seconds on the clock. Hahn for three at the buzzer……Somehow gets it to fall. We are heading to OverTime. Trojans trailing by three. Luke O’Hare gets the hoop plus the foul. Game tied at 52-52. 12 seconds remaining. Trojans trailing by two. Noah DeLapaz misses the front end of the 1 and 1. Trojans coming the other way for the tie….First shot from Dawson Dahl doesn’t go, but Ansell is there to clean it up at the buzzer. We will go to a 2nd OT. The Trojans trail by 3 again with 10 seconds left. Skalet tries a three at the buzzer, but this time it doesn’t fall. 3 CASS LAKE-BENA A thriller at Williams Arean. but Rushford-Peterson falls in double overtime 63-61. WIPE SOT There is so many oppoutunities that we had, and so did they. I am just proud that they kept their heads up when we were down three, and down two.They found a way to sneak back in. So I give these kids a lot of credit for the resiliency . It’s always tough, and it’s great having great role models like these seniors, and it just gives me more incentive to work hard and try to get back here next year. WIPE VO NONCONFERENCE GIRLS SOFTBALL How about some softball. Luther and Aquinas meet to open up their seasons. Bottom of the first, bases loaded for the knights as they hit a grounder to third but the catcher cannot come up with the ball so one run scores. Next batter, Luther gets two more as Allison Beagle and Grace Meyer score off the bobble. Top of the third, Knights up 5-0 when Sydney Schamberger connects on a swinging bunt, Blugolds get on the board. Bottom five, Luther gets the run back. Rebecca Robertson grounds one to short, Aquinas gets the tag out but a run comes across. Luther wins the opener. 6-2 the final.
