We’re in the single digits. Just nine days to go until our first News 8 Highlight Zone. Bangor not having to wait that long. ….they’ll have their usual season kickoff versus Melrose-Mindoro the night prior. The Cardinals are enjoying a terrific run in recent years. not losing a conference game since 2013. Three straight unbeaten regular seasons followed including a state championship. Eight starters return on offense. and seven on defense from a 2016 squad that was one win shy of making it back to Camp Randall. It’s a program that prides itself on running the football and great defense. a formula that remains the same in 2017. We have four of our five starting linebackers returning which is key, two of our defensive backs, and two of our defensive linemen. We’ve been working really hard. Coach has been pushing us, he’s been pushing us a lot. We know what our expectations are we just have to live up to them. We averaged 23 kids in the weight room every day this summer so that’s amazing, that’s definitely a huge part of it. It’s good to be back. I’m excited. We have a lot of returning guys and we have something special this year I think. The goal in Viroqua is to make the playoffs for the first time since 2004. Fourth year head coach Bill Hannah will have to rely on many underclassmen with little or no varsity experience. as he deals with graduation losses and a small senior class. One of the seniors he can depend on is quarterback Ryan Hannah. who will be entering his third year as a starter. He’s a great leader for our team. This will be his third year starting for us. He does a nice job along with the other seniors that we have. We’ll have a senior offensve tackle that will be anchoring our offensive line and we’ll have a senior running back that’ll be back too. So we’re really excited about those guys working hard for us. I worked a lot on my footwork and I’ve gone to a couple of quarterback camps this year so we can throw the ball a little bit more. I think we are just underrated. People aren’t going to expect us to do well so we can just go and strike them. And a program reminder that the Vikings preseason opener tomorrow night at Buffalo can be seen right here on News 8 starting at 6-o-clock. Also a week from Friday with a late game in Seattle. our first News 8 Highlight Zone of the new season will hit during the halftime of that game. We’ll be right back.
