At this morning – spring practice kicked off for UW-La Crosse football with a new voice leading the way. Mike Schimdt gets the first on-field work as head coach under his belt . The Eagles spent an hour on the field before sun-up. And guess who showed up? Former Holmen Head Coach Steve King. King joins Schmidt’s staff as an assistant – a move that was agreed upon last week. As for this week – it’s all about a brand new regime in La Crosse. Really good for a first day. These guys have been waiting for this time. Spring ball this year is not so much about the scheme. It is not so much about — you know we do not even have helmets on. Boy they really brought it today. They really brought it and they had to. They really did not even have a choice in some of the stuff that we were doing with them. That first thing, right there running on the field, no walking on the field. Coach Schmidt brings an incredible amount of energy. And I think that is just the whole excitement around the program right now. New faces, clean slate. Everyone is fighting for a starting position and I think that is just part of the fun part. Defending state champion Logan softball opening up their season hosting Tomah.
