Molloy News Now! – Sports News | Sept. 16, 2016


[intro music] Hey lions! I’m Brice Reynolds, and I’ll be giving you
all you need to know inside the world of sports. On September 9, the women’s tennis team took
to the courts at Eisenhower Park against the University of District of Columbia Firebirds. Despite a valiant effort from freshman Samantha
Bloecker, who won both her singles and doubles match, the Lions ultimately fell to UDC 6-3. This past summer the Olympics took place in
Rio de Jenerio, Brazil. The United States took home 121 medals, 46
of them being gold, both totals the most by any country. Competing in his final Olympics was swimmer
Michael Phelps, who added another five gold as well as a silver medal to his Olympic collection. Long Island native Sue Bird took home gold
in women’s basketball, and field and track runner Natasha Hastings from Uniondale took
home gold in the women’s 4×400 meter relay. Olympic newcomers Allie Long and Crystal Dunn
