Minnesota State Employer Partnership with Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority (MSFA)

(emphatic orchestral music) [Michael] Minnesota
Sports Facilities Authority owns and operates U.S. Bank Stadium. When we were taking a look at mapping the outside skin of the building, we could do that manually, which we have, but we found
that that took a long time. So we came up with the
idea of using a drone, which really started our partnership between the MSFA and Minnesota State. [Jon] Northland Community
and Technical College started an Unmanned Aircraft
System Maintenance program eight years ago that covers the operations of drone technology, maintenance and touches
on the geospatial aspects of how you can use the data
to make industry products. Since then we’ve had the Geospatial Technician
AAS degree program that really deals with
the imagery and data that we’re talking about. St. Cloud State University is one of our principal partners, so they helped in generation of some of the concepts and ideas to create the visualization
of the 3D model. This project allowed us
to pair an industry need, how you perform the
inspection and maintenance of the overall U.S. Bank Stadium, to the skills of using drone technology that we’ve been incorporating
into the classroom; and by coming together, we were able to come up with
a very innovative product. [Michael] I think the
key takeaway for this is the power of partnerships between a business and an
educational institution. (gentle music) Minnesota State is the only educational system that has this scope and breadth in order to help businesses
accomplish what they need; and, in addition to that, providing a workforce pipeline. I would definitely recommend
every business to partner up with Minnesota State
colleges and universities. (gentle music)
