THOSE STORIES AND MORE, BACK TO YOU. Ruth: THANK YOU, WE’LL LOOK FORWARD TO THOSE STORIES. [CHEERING] Ruth: THOSE ARE THE AMAZING GANDY BROTHERS COMPLETING ONE OF THEIR JOINT WALKS. THEY’RE FROM HERE IN SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN, BIG BROTHER HUNTER CARRIED HIS BROTHER BRAIDEN ON HIS BACK 57 MILES. BRAIDEN HAS CEREBRAL PALSY AND THIS WALK HAPPENED TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT THAT CONDITION. AS OUR JAMIE EDMONDS SHOWS YOU, HUNTER IS GETTING A VERY SPECIAL AWARD. Jamie: SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, A MAGAZINE KNOWN FOR HIGHLIGHTING PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES HAS COME TO HIGHLIGHT A TEEN AT NOT FOR WHAT HE’S DONE IN THE GYM BUT OUTSIDE OF IT. BRAIDEN HAS CEREBRAL PALSY, HIS OLDER BROTHER WAS TRYING TO RAISE AWARENESS BY SELLING BRACELETS AT HIS SCHOOL. I SAW HOW OPEN MY CLASSMATES WERE TO JUST LEARNING ABOUT WHAT BRAIDEN HAD AND THE CONDITION THAT MY BROTHER HAD. AND I SAW THEIR OPENNESS TO LEARNING ABOUT IT AND WANTED TO TELL MORE PEOPLE. Jamie: HE CARRIED BRAIDEN 40 MILES FROM TEMPERANCE TO ANN ARBOR AND CALLED IT THE CEREBRAL PALSY SWAGGER. THIS PAST SUMMER, HE DID IT AGAIN, THIS TIME 57 MILES, GETTING THE WORD OUT ONE STEP AT A TIME. I HAVE HAD SO MUCH SUPPORT, SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO MY EFFORTS. I WOULDN’T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO THIS ALONE. IT WASN’T JUST ME CARRYING MY BROTHER. MOST PEOPLE SEE MY PROJECT AS A BOY WHO CARRIED HIS BROTHER, BUT IN REALITY, WE WERE CARRIED BY SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE. Jamie: THE TEEN SO HUMBLE, BARELY TALKS ABOUT HIMSELF BUT TODAY A BIG HONOR FOR THIS BEDFORD HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLER, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED NAMED HIM THE FIRST EVER HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETE OF THE YEAR. WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE AWARD, I WAS IN AWE OF IT TO HAVE ONE OF OUR STUDENTS TO HAVE SUCH NATIONAL ATTENTION BUT MAKES PERFECT SENSE BECAUSE IT’S A WELL-DESERVED AWARD. Jamie: HUNTER AND HIS FAMILY HAVE ALREADY FLOWN OUT TO NEW YORK.
