DEGREE AT ESTRELLA MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY
COLLEGE CAN BE COMPLETED IN JUST TWO YEARS. WE’RE WRITING CURRICULUM. WE’RE MODIFYING CURRICULUM. WE’RE BUYING CAPITAL EQUIPMENT
THAT WE COULDN’T AFFORD BEFORE. THE FIRST HALF OF THE

STUDENTS CONTINUE AT CHANDLER-GILBERT. THOSE WHO CHOOSE THE
NUCLEAR PATH GO TO ESTRELLA MOUNTAIN, AS IT’S
THE ONLY ONE TO WORK WITH A NUCLEAR FACILITY. I ENROLLED IN THIS PROGRAM
BECAUSE I WANTED TO SET MYSELF UP FOR SUCCESS,
PROJECT MY CAREER, AND DEVELOP SOME STABILITY. DANIEL CURRENTLY WORKS
AT PALO VERDE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION
AS AN ADMINISTRATOR. THERE’S ONLY SO FAR THAT
I CAN TAKE MYSELF WITHOUT HAVING THE EDUCATION PIECE. SO I DO NEED THAT KEY TO
OPEN UP THE CERTAIN DOORS. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR
GRADUATES ARE OFTEN IMMEDIATE. WE HAVE VERY GOOD RELATIONSHIP
WITH OUR UTILITY PARTNERS. THEY’RE TELLING US WHAT
TYPES OF JOBS ARE GOING TO BE AVAILABLE AND WHEN THOSE JOBS
ARE GOING TO BE AVAILABLE. THE POWER PLANT TECHNOLOGY
PROGRAM IS IDEAL FOR VETERANS OR THOSE
ALREADY EMPLOYED IN AN ENERGY-RELATED FIELD. WE’RE LOOKING FOR THOSE
INDIVIDUALS BECAUSE THEY COME TO US WITH A CERTAIN
AMOUNT OF SKILL SET, AND THE GAP BETWEEN WHAT THEY
ALREADY KNOW AND WHAT WE NEED THEM TO KNOW, MANY
TIMES IT’S A SMALL GAP. SALARIES IN THE POWER
PLANT INDUSTRY ARE ATTRACTIVE. YOU’RE GOING TO BE
OPERATING VERY EXPENSIVE EQUIPMENT, AND IT HAS
CONSEQUENCES IF YOU DON’T DO THINGS THE RIGHT WAY. YOU WILL KNOW YOUR VALVES

THAT YOU CAN USE AT HOME TO HELP RELIEVE
MUSCLE TENSION. SO AS I MENTIONED EARLY,
THE FOAM ROLLER IS A GREAT TOOL. AND THEY COME IN
DIFFERENT SIZES. YOU CAN PURCHASE THESE AT
LIKE A TARGET, A ROSS, SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO SPEND AN
EXTRAORDINARY AMOUNT OF MONEY, BUT I KNOW YOU CAN
GO TO SPORTS AUTHORITY OR SOMEWHERE LIKE THAT
AND PURCHASE THEM. THE OTHER THINGS YOU MAY
HAVE AT HOME THAT YOU’RE NOT EVEN AWARE OF THAT ARE
GREAT TOOLS ARE — GOLF BALLS ARE A GREAT TOOL. A TENNIS BALL IS ANOTHER
GREAT TOOL THAT YOU CAN USE. AND I’M GOING TO SHOW
HOW TO USE SOME OF THESE THINGS. AND THIS IS MORE
OF A STRESS BALL. IT’S A LITTLE BIT SOFTER. SO WHEN CHOOSING ONE OF
THESE MODALITIES WHAT YOU WANT TO LOOK
AT IS THE SIZE. BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THE
SMALLER THE SIZE, LIKE A GOLF BALL, IS GOING TO
BE REALLY MORE TARGET SPECIFIC, AND THAT AGAIN
IS GOING TO BE A LITTLE BIT MORE INTENSE. WHEN WE GET TO A BIGGER
SURFACE AREA, IT’S GOING TO BE SPREAD OUT A LITTLE

ANYTHING LIKE THAT, THEN YOU DO NEED TO CHECK WITH
YOUR DOCTOR AND MAKE SURE THAT THERE’S NOTHING
REALLY SERIOUS GOING ON. FOR THOSE OF YOU SUFFERING
MORE FROM JUST UPPER-BODY TENSION, WHAT I WANT YOU

AND I’LL JUST START TO RUB ON EITHER SIDE OF MY
SPINE ON THE NECK. AND YOU’LL FIND THAT
THERE’S AREAS THAT HAVE A LOT OF TENSION. AND YOU’RE JUST GOING TO
FIND THAT ONE PARTICULAR AREA, AND THEN YOU’RE JUST
GOING TO GIVE IT A GENTLE PRESS AND JUST HOLD AND
MAKE SURE THAT YOUR BREATHING. YOU CAN USE THIS TENNIS
BALL ALL THE WAY DOWN ON EITHER SIDE OF THE SPINE,
EVEN INTO THE GLUT. SO IT’S A GREAT TOOL TO
HELP RELEASE ANY OF THAT MUSCLE TENSION. SO LET’S GO AHEAD AND SHOW
YOU KNOW HOW TO USE SOME OF THESE TOOLS. I’M GOING TO MOVE
THE BALL OVER. AND LET’S MOVE THESE
ROLLERS OUT OF THE WAY. SO WHAT WE WANT TO THINK

RELIEVE SOME TRIGGER POINTS. THE THING I WANT YOU TO BE
AWARE OF IS YOU’RE GOING TO ONLY GO TO THE LEVEL
THAT FEELS GOOD FOR YOU. SO WHEN WE REST ON THE
BALL ON CERTAIN POINTS OF YOUR BODY YOU ARE
GOING FEEL SOME PAIN. AND YOU NEED TO MONITOR
HOW MUCH PAIN IS DOABLE AND COMFORTABLE FOR YOU. OKAY. WE ARE BREAKING UP SOME
OF THESE TRIGGER POINTS. AND SO THE FIRST AREA I’M
GOING TO SHOW YOU IS — WE’VE ALREADY
DONE THE NECK. I’M GOING TO SHOW YOU HOW
TO APPLY THE BALL RIGHT IN YOUR UPPER MID-BACK. SO WHAT I WANT YOU TO DO
IS YOU’RE GOING TO SLIDE FORWARD FINDING A
COMFORTABLE FLAT SURFACE. AND YOU’RE ACTUALLY GOING
TO PUT THAT BALL KIND OF IN THAT AREA BETWEEN YOUR
SHOULDER BLADE AND YOUR SPINE. THERE’S A LITTLE
AREA IN THERE. AND WE’RE GOING LEAN BACK. WE’RE GOING TO ACTUALLY
LAY DOWN ON THE BALL. YOU’RE GOING TO SUPPORT
YOUR HEAD WITH ONE HAND, AND YOU’RE GOING TO PUSH
INTO YOUR FEET AND KIND OF ROLL ONTO THIS BALL. AND YOU’RE GOING TO SEE
WHERE YOU NEED TO GO FOR YOU. YOU CAN THEN RELEASE THE
HEAD DOWN AND JUST KIND OF ROLL FROM SIDE TO SIDE
LETTING THE BALL KIND OF GO ACROSS THE FIBERS. YOU MAY WANT TO FIND ONE AREA
AND JUST RELAX INTO THAT AREA. ONCE YOU KIND OF FEEL THAT
MUSCLE RELEASE, YOU’RE GOING TO COME DOWN. YOU’LL KIND OF COME UP,
AND YOU’LL START THE WHOLE PROCESS AGAIN. WE MAY SLIDE THE BALL DOWN
NOW A LITTLE BIT LOWER AND FIND THAT AREA. AND I’M AGAIN ROLLING
ACROSS THE FIBERS. YOU CAN GO WITH THE FIBERS
OR AGAINST THE FIBERS. JUST REMEMBER YOU WANT TO
STAY ON THE MUSCLE AND NOT BE ON THE BONE. AGAIN, I’M BREATHING. YOU CAN RELAX THE HEAD
