Leeds victory over Barnsley marred by ugly scenes with fans clashing

Leeds United’s victory over Barnsley on Sunday afternoon was marred by ugly scenes as fans clashed during a heated Yorkshire derby  Police were called in to intervene as Leeds supporters spilled out into home sections of Oakwell before inflicting violence upon opposing fans   The trouble commenced shortly after Marcelo Bielsa’s side opened the scoring in the 84th minute through Arsenal loanee Eddie Nketiah   Barnsley stewards are said to have been caught in the crossfire, with Leeds fans allegedly throwing punches their way  Leeds went on to double their lead and secure the win via a late Mateusz Klich penalty, but the violence raged on long after the final whistle  In a video posted on Twitter, police officers are seen streaming towards a section of a home stand to attend to violent scenes, with a pair of supporters strewn over advertising hoardings   The video also shows fans throwing wild punches as the violence got out of hand on Sunday afternoon   Other images show one Leeds fan being apprehended by police officers while another scuffles with ground staff at Oakwell  Shortly after the game Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsea gave his thoughts on the ugly end to the game  He said: ‘I feel pity that something like that happened, but I didn’t see it.’ Although no statement has yet been made by South Yorkshire Police, it is believed that the violence started after Leeds fans were sat in the home end of the ground
