I am the Assistant Communications Manager for the Cleveland Indians

This is our Clubhouse tunnel. This is the tunnel our players walk every day to get from their Clubhouse to the dugout to the field and get ready to go. My name is Joel Hammond and I’m the Assistant Director of Communications for the Cleveland Indians. We are here in the Pressbox at Progressive Field. We do a lot of different things based on the day here progressive field We handle our social media, we handle our PR efforts, content generation, player relations – that sort of thing We do all kinds of stuff and chances are if you see anything that’s going on with Cleveland Indians We’ve we’ve had at least a small part in it. Part of my job is to get people talking about the Indians and Progressive Field and get them excited to come to games. One way we succeeded this off season… Happy Dog has a has a hot dog with Froot Loops and Mac-n-cheese on it. We had an open house and what we did was we tweeted out a picture of this new hot dog and it just blew up nationally Bleacher Report, Sports Illustrated all covered this this new addition to progressive field So that was a success for my job. We got people talking about progressive field, talking about the Indians during the offseason and got them excited to come to the ballpark. Big-time success story from our social media perspective. I went to Bowling Green State University in Northwest Ohio for college I majored in print journalism I was a newspaper writer and I loved it that was what i wanted to do throughout my high school and college careers. I worked at the high school newspaper, i worked at the college newspaper. I worked at the the city newspaper in Bowling Green. I went south to South Carolina after college worked in daily newspapers. I came back to Cleveland, i worked at a newspaper here. In 2012, I reached out to the Indians about a job they had open… They thought I fit, I thought I fit. That’s how I landed here. We’re here on the warning track of Progressive Field. We spend a lot of time here during batting practice on game day. This is where a lot of our player meet-and-greets happen Our players are great about visiting our fans, signing autographs. My favorite part about working for the Indians is telling stories Whether it’s our fans stories, whether it’s our player stories, whether it’s our organization story. We have a lot of great stories internally here too. It’s just a great opportunity to communicate with the public with our fans, about our players, about our organization. That’s really what I… the kick I get out of this job.
