HOW TO: OLYMPIC GYMNASTICS WARM UP ROUTINE

– Hey guys welcome back
to our channel, I’m Shawn. – Hi I’m Andrew. – Today we are back at the gymnastics gym. – Yes. – Andrew had a great idea,
if you guys don’t know my entire career and most
elite gymnast’s careers every single day when you go into the gym you do the national team warm up. It’s kinda like this special warm up, it’s like 30 minutes
long, it kicks your butt but it gets you truly
warmed up for gymnastics. But Andrew’s never done
it, so he’s gonna go side by side with me,
I’m gonna show you what the national team warm
up is, how we do it, how long it takes, how hard it is, and see if he can keep up. – But we thought this
would be a great video for all you gymnasts out there and also for those who aren’t gymnasts, this is a great active
warm up for whatever you’re about to do, I would
probably consider it a workout. – Yeah it’s a workout. – So let’s do this. – And for anybody that isn’t gymnasts or that aren’t gymnasts, please try this tag us pictures or videos on Instagram, we would love to see it,
before we get started before you see this, please subscribe, comment down below and let
us know what you think. – [Both] Let’s do this. – Hey for those of you who don’t know Shawn was an Olympic gymnast, won three Olympic medals and I somehow– – Excuse me four. – So sorry, and somehow
– Four – I’m in the NFL so watch the
difference in athletic types. But let’s do this thing. – Okay so here is part
one, this is like get your blood flowing, kinda like the
dynamic part of the warm up. You’re gonna be running around the floor doing a bunch of laps and diagonals, it’s like scissor kicks,
high knees, butt kickers, everything to kinda
get your blood flowing. You’re gonna do that in the
four, like running all the way around the floor and it
takes about like 10 minutes. (upbeat music) Wait side note, when you do
the national team warm up, if you’re at the national team camp, they’re very picky that
you run on the same exact foot as everybody and you’re
perfectly in sync, Andrew. – Alright let’s do it. (upbeat music) I’m gonna be a pretzel on the floor. – [Shawn] What? – [Andrew] Be a pretzel on the floor. – [Shawn] Yeah – What the heck was that? – I’m winded. – Some of those moves were ridiculous, don’t judge me based off of these. – Okay part two is the
stationary stretching so you’re gonna do like
arm circles, arm swings pike stretches, straddle stretches, some kicks on the floor, you’re gonna stretch out your achilles, your knees, your shoulders, your neck, your back, just kinda like all the stretching stuff that you usually do. So everything is done by eight, ready. (upbeat music) – [Andrew] Ah, my shoulders. – [Shawn] watch your partner, we have to stay at the same pace. Two, three, four, good. One, two, three there you go kick kick, circle four, five – [Woman] Hi, how’re you doing? – [Shawn} Good how are you? – [Woman] Good, whew it stinks in here. – [Shawn] Yeah. – [Andrew] Ahh yeah right, ahh owe. – Okay so part three is
the conditioning circuit it’s really short but you’re
gonna do like a candlestick to one leg jumps, you’re
gonna do tuck jumps you’re gonna do some
V-ups, you’re gonna do some V-ups where you roll
over, or you do like side V-up or like side things. (Andrew laughing) side – [Andrew] Get it girl – Arch-ups, but it’s really
short and really, really easy. I can’t do it anymore. Watch your knees. – That was it? – Yeah – Pretty good warm up – If this is a warm up this sucks. – It’s a work out straight
up, it’s like yoga class. That was good, this is real, this is actually how I’m breathing. – So part four, this is
the hardest part for me, complex, it is like the
basics of gymnastics, you’re gonna do kicks,
side kicks, back kicks, needle kicks, ring kicks, front walkovers, back walkovers, hand stand
walks, back extension rolls, back extension roll half
turns, front handsprings, front handspring front tuck,
cartwheel to back handspring surrounded by handspring, surrounded by handspring back tucks,
sticks, all these things. It’s the hardest, it’s brutal. One, two, three, kick, one, two, three (Shawn laughing) oh I can’t do those anymore, oh god. I’m gonna see if you can do a complex. Do a handstand halfway, oh gosh. – [Andrew] Backwards? – [Shawn] Yep – Dang it! – [Shawn] Straighten your
shoulders, straighten your arms. Kick your feet towards me. Nice. Backwards. Front walkover. – You just did it. Can I just do a cartwheel? – [Shawn] Foot straight over (Shawn laughing) – Whoa! A little nervous. (Shawn laughing) I don’t know how to start. That’s dangerous. – [Shawn] Owe (Shawn laughing) very good. (Shawn laughing) Are you okay? – I don’t know why, for some
reason I thought I could. Oh my– – Oh that’s humbling. – Okay guys I don’t know about you guys but I thought that was pretty cool, thank you Shawn for
leading us through that. That was amazing. – That was super humbling, I can’t do anything anymore.
– And difficult you didn’t, you weren’t
able to do like two things, get outta here, let us
know down below if you guys tagged along and how you did. – If you like this give it a
thumbs up, comment down below. – Yeah do you guys want more
gymnastics videos or what? Let us know. – Yeah, we’ll see you next time. (upbeat music)
