. SUZIE: LOS ANGELES OF ONE OF TWO CITIES BIDDING FOR THE 2024 OLYMPICS AFTER BUDAPEST DROPPED OUT. JEFF: THE DECISION TO HOST THE OLYMPICS IS BECOMING MORE CONTROVERSIAL. PETER DAUT IS HERE WITH A LOOK WHY MANY CITIES AREN’T WILLING TO DO THAT ANYMORE. REPORTER: IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE THE GREATEST HONOR A CITY CAN RECEIVE, A CHANCE FOR IT TO WELCOME THE WORLD AND SHOW OFF, BUT HOSTING THE OLYMPICS IS INCREASINGLY SEEN AS AN UNNECESSARY BURDEN AND TODAY WAS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THAT. THEN THERE WERE TWO. AFTER BUDAPEST WITH DREW TO HOST THE 2024 OLYMPICS, THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE MUST DECIDE BETWEEN PARIS AND LOS ANGELES. WE INTEND TO WIN THIS. L.A. MAYOR GARCETTI HAS CONSISTENTLY POINTED TO STRONG SUPPORT IN THE SOUTHLAND FOR THE GAMES. IT’S BEEN ABLE TO TURN A PROFIT. ALMOST 6 MONTHS AFTER RIO HOSTED THE OLYMPICS THE LEGACY IS CRUMBLING. WITH BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF WASTED AND UNUSED VENUES, MANY COUNTRIES ARE NO LONGER WILLING TO HOST THE GAMES. BEFORE BUDAPEST DROPPED OUT, ROME SAID NO THANKS TO A BID FORWARD 2024T. MAYOR THERE SAID HE ISSING THE GAMES WOULD BE IRRESPONSIBLE AND WOULD ONLY CAUSE THE FALL INTO MORE DEBT. L.A. WAS TAPPED TO REPLACE BOSTON AFTER THE U.S. OLYMPIC COMMITTEE FACED VOCAL OPPOSITION AND THE LACK OF POLITICAL SUPPORT N. THE PAST TWO DECADES THE IOC HAS SEEN TWICE AS MANY CITIES DROP OUT AS REMAINED. YOU SEE THE COSTS HAVE BEEN RISING AND THERE’S A CHASM. HE’S WRITTEN BOOKS ON THE LITTLE PICKS AND SAYS THE IOC CAN’T HIDE THE FACT FROM THE CITY THEY FACED SINCE THE ’80s. IT’S GOT TO BE ALARM TO GO THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE. IS PREPARED TO HOST THE GAMES A THIRD TIME WITH THE BUDGETS CONSCIOUS PLAN THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE BUILDING NEW VENUES. L.A. 2024 WOULD INCLUDE SPORTS PARKS ACROSS THE SOUTHLAND. 1. honestly why don't they pick like an island build it there, keep it maintained, make it a tourist attraction and just host it in the same place every 4 years

  2. London had a very successful Olympics and there were plans in place on use of the structures afterwards. The venues are still being used with the main Stadium now home to West Ham United. Use London as an example of Olympics and post Olympics done right!

  3. Jeff?!?! He been moving around a lot in the past 6 years. Went from NBC Kansas City to Detroit and now L.A..
Grass is not always greener on the other side.

  4. Well this is also because the people here in Berlin and Hamburg are just idiots…
We don't really have to build new stuff but our people are to afraid
But if FIFA would ask if we want to have the Soccer WC they would not even think a second before saying yes… stupid hypocrites

  5. I'd like to see land donated in 2-4 spots around the world to permanently house the facilities for the games….two for summer and two for winter. Two countries would host the opening ceremonies, one for winter and one for summer. Each facility would be open for training several months a year. If you had 2 winter sites and two summer sites, you could keep each site repaired and up to date or have time to change or update venues. The money would be split between the IOC and the host country for that year. It is utterly ridiculous to keep building Olympic villages and event locations every 4 years some place new.

  6. LA can do it. Rio just sucked even before the Olympics. They built up false walls to hide true Rio. At least LA, you'll see the real deal, and the stadiums are already there.

  7. Rio is not the same as Los Angeles. They had to construct a lot of their venues for the games; some completely from scratch. The venues that Los Angeles is planning to use have already been built and are consistently used for football, soccer, basketball games among other things and will continue to be used even after the games are done. I feel that only cities that really don't need to modify their infrastructure for the games should consider bidding because otherwise they will probably face financial hardship.

  8. Honestly, the IOC should designate some country to build a permanent stadium to host the games every four years so we don't have to go through this business with cities going bankrupt and venues becoming abandoned.

  9. Risk la is willing to take? More like a risk that the entire US is taking wasting our tax dollars when we are already in major debt. This is going to be the end of the US make my words. I'm moving to Canada by 2023

  10. Why not have a country host the Olympics, so that different venues can host at different times?

Being that the closest I ever get to see an American Olympics, I'd still have to get on a Jet and fly 4-5hours seems absurd

  11. London is not ruined they where smart they used portable buildings for horse riding and the stadium is used and the swimming pool is used a lot

  12. They should just build a permanent complex in or near Olympia Greece where the games began and host it there every year with participating nations hosting the opening and closing by bids as they do now. It would save costs and the nations could focus on bringing knowledge of their people to the world in performance rather than going trillions into debt to build useless concrete structures they'll tear down in 30 years anyway.

  13. IOC is itself a greedy fraud. They take up to 50% of the total earnings of a hosting city, no matter how expensive it took to build the infrastructure. IOC's rules are something making cities less interested.

  14. The should build some kind of island where they’d host the game every time, it could be a major tourist spot and the venues wouldn’t go to waste. It could be no one‘s land, a country claimed by no one, it’s just for olympics.

  15. It's the Worlds biggest Scam. The rich get to gamble with other peoples money, cute about no new buildings (which simply means they build a New building sorry upgrade/update in the original buildings Footprint) anyone who believes that deserves to have their money given to the IOC. Not to mention who pays for the maintenance and upkeep of these buildings after they are upgraded and the Olympics are long gone? There isn't one of these Gems that returns anymore that 50 cents on the Dollar to cover their true operating and Maintenance costs.

  16. most olympic host dont have and end strategy….what their venus would be use later…..some have them but economical crisis…made it impossible….look at greece…rio…even beijing…all are dead venues now….

  17. Here's an idea. Why not just host different sports in different cities? Why spend billions of dollars and dedicate 1 location for it all when you can use existing venues around the world for different sports?

  18. LA traffic already sucks. Imagine hundreds and thousands of people coming from all over the world at once lol Also, they brought a good point about people possibly being deterred from coming to the US 🇺🇸

  19. I think the Olympics around the world are pointless. Why not just have Olympics in one city? It's too dang expensive to have it constantly move and having that arena or whatever only being used for once a year. Honestly if it takes this much effort to host the Olympics… ITS JUST A BUNCH OF SPORTS. yes I know the importance of it (ect to determine who's the greatest at what) but it's just too much pressure on economics and even on the people that compete. I mean, have you seen the video that shows how Japanese prepare/torture their children? It's just a sport.

  20. God I wish the Olympics and World Cup would be cancelled, already! Are people truly so lacking in perspective, lacking in humility, that they care more about seeing a game in which one kicks a piece of leather around, or in which one runs around in a circle really fast, than they do about the fact that the billions of tax dollars spent on these events could be spent on things like infrastructure or education or disaster relief instead? Than they do about the slum people who inevitably get kicked out of their homes to make way for stadiums that are never thereafter used again? I just can't stand the forced atmosphere of jollity that accompanies these events when I'm aware of the ugly underlying realities.

  21. Congrats Los Angeles! You are the best U.S. city to host the Summer Olympic Games! You have hosted the Games twice before and you done a good job!

  22. LA is already a horrible place to live and drive. This will make the city crumble. Traffic will be stopped and the cost will be so high they will raise taxes to the point where those who can afford it will leave leaving just the extreme poor to pay for it. Good luck with that

  23. I think this system is really chaotic, they should just stay in one fixed area (maybe Greece, the country of origin of the Olympic ) and save billions of dollars and materials

  24. LA would be a successful host city if they stick to their plan. Building athletics village is the dumbest idea of all time since living in home largely influenced by culture and most athletics village either not using properly or just not affordable. And in the US, every college has huge living arrangements in colleges which will be much cheaper to rent rather than wasting money and land for building new village

  25. Very few cities can afford the games. Most can build the venues, but can't keep using them after. I live in a city that only needs to build one venue, to host the games, it has everything else and users them and it's not even bidding for the game not yet anyway.

  26. Here’s what LA has to do in order to make sure it doesn’t turn into Rio: put the Dodgers in the baseball stadium. They need a new one anyway. Put the Rams and the Galaxy in the soccer/football stadium. Make the aquatic venues into public pools when it’s all over. And make the athlete hotel into affordable housing. This will be the best way for LA to make a profit off of this.

  27. It's so crazy to think that so many of the olympians who will compete in the LA olympics in 11 years are little kids right now. I wonder where we'll all be at in 11 years. See you in LA 🙂

  28. BRUH la is a city that will do it well and not get fucked like rio did so if they have nothing to do wi5 the stadium make it LA galaxys new home stadium

  29. Well, they need to spend the money to the homeless, there will be the same protests like in rio because both of them rio and la have large homeless people population. The money will be spent nowhere

  30. Nonsense. The corrupt local oligarchy is willing to waste public money. And they had to hurriedly accept the bid before the population could mount protests.

  31. perhaps the IOC can STOP being greedy fucks and stop taking so much of the revenue that would automatically go to the host city, and not line their damn pockets, WTF does the IOC do anyway? takes the biggest bribes from cities that want to host the games, yeah and that's not even guaranteeing that city gets the games

  32. Take them to the gulf countries. They are crying a river of oil for not letting them host. Of course slavery will increase.
