Ep1: Welcome to the Jungle | EXPEDITION CONGO | #WWFVoices

I’m Josh Guyan. I’m a wildlife cameraman and I’m here in the Congo Basin the second largest tropical rainforest on the planet My mission? To show you biodiversity in action The Congo Basin is the green heart of Africa it covers over 500 million acres across six different countries and tens of thousands of species call this place home I don’t think I’m going to find all of those but I’m going to try as hard as I can to find as many as possible This huge variety of different species and the places they live is what we call biodiversity and it’s so important We often talk about saving individual species like Gorillas and Elephants but actually they’re just one piece of a huge puzzle Currently, the world’s biodiversity is declining rapidly We’re not just losing cute animals we’re losing reliable sources of food, fresh water and clean air In fact, it’s likely that we won’t know many of the consequences until it’s too late I don’t know about you but I find that quite worrying Ecosystems are complicated and fragile things that rely on interactions between different species to keep them functioning properly and that is what I’m here to explore I’ll be staying with Odzala Discovery Camps during my time here where I’ll be tracking gorillas through the forest we found the silverback he’s massive checking out cool insects getting my feet wet exploring these amazing bais and even trying to catch a glimpse of the elusive forest elephant I really hope that you’re as curious as I am about the Congo Basin so stick around for this adventure by subscribing to this YouTube channel right now and I’ll see you all next week

  1. WWF, stop supporting the illegal creation of MessokDja National Park, Congo. Turning local communities against you jeopardizes your goal of protecting the area’s wildlife. Listen to Baka people and respect their human rights

  2. @WWF – Stop backing the creation of Messok Dja! This is Baka land and there is no reason to displace the tribal peoples of this world. You know full well that they are the best placed to help protect vulnerable species. You need to work with them, not against them.

  3. WWF does great work for biodiversity but supports human rights violations against Indigenous Baka people in Messok Dja, Congo…this must stop!!

  4. WWF, please stop victimising innocent people and withdraw your support from the MessokDja National Park. Denying the Baka people of access to their ancestral home and in doing so their livelihood and way of life is completely the wrong approach to safeguarding nature. Both animals and human beings deserve their rights. I will never support you in any way until you stop funding violence, these tactics are indefensible.

  5. As a WWF supporter I deplore its very presence in the national park. You are trespassing, WWF. The land belongs to the Baka people who are subjected to violence to drive them out. It's now recognized that indigenous people know best how to care for, and have a vested interest in looking after their environment, and WWF should leave them to it,

  12. It's great to protect wildlife. But not at the expense of the indigenous forest peoples, the Baka. You need to use their skills and knowledge – not drive them out of their homelands. Stop this ethnic cleansing!

  13. “WWF, stop supporting the illegal creation of #MessokDja National Park, Congo. Turning local communities against you jeopardizes your goal of protecting the area’s wildlife. Listen to Baka people and respect their human rights.”

  14. The creation of the Messok Dja National Park in northwest Congo threatens the survival of the Baka and Bakwele people who have lived there for generations. And it’s illegal.

The Baka are being driven from their land for fear of violence at the hands of armed rangers, and excluded from the forests they rely on for food and medicine. They have not given their consent to the park, and without their support, the park will fail.

Effective conservation does not require the eviction of local people. I urge you to stop backing the creation of Messok Dja National Park.

  15. Hey WWF

  16. WWF, please stop supporting the illegal creation of Messok Dja National Park! How can you pretend to protect nature and wildlife, while you're funding armed forces to violently evict the Baka people from their land, which they have been protecting since time began?

  19. Hey, WWF, what is going on in Messok Dja National Park? I read that you violate indigenous people rights and don't let them enter their native area! Shame!

    Stand up, speak up! Explain!

  23. I agree on preserving biodiversity, but the creation of Messok Dja National Park in Congo, supported by WWF, without the prior, informed and free consent of its tribal inhabitants, the Baka and Bakwele, is ILLEGAL!! WWF must respect FAO and UN international rules and Human Rights. And stop founding violent ecoguards !

  27. The WWF must stop supporting the illegal creation of #MessokDja National Park. I used to think the WWF was protecting Earth but now I'm no longer sure.

  28. I don't want to se more WWFUk adv. nobody will give money to UK organizations english people and government are the major problem.
Forbid every english man to travel and trade with Africa and you alredy save half of the animal population.

  29. WWF, you must stop supporting the creation of MessokDja National Park in Congo. Turning local communities against you damages your aim of protecting the area’s animals. You must respect Baka's human rights!!

  30. To bless the nature you´ve got to let the Baka people alive and let them live in their home-country. Nature protection can only be impossible with indigenius people, not against them. I´m so frustated that an Organisation wich want to help for the planet, works against people from this planet. Not only the Baka-people, anywhere else WWF is fighting against indigenious people in the name of nature protection……How can this be possible? Why doesn´t tell organisations like WWF how bad factory farming is for mother earth? Because of money, and that´s why I´m frustated. All that organisations want honour and money and maybe a few of them, wich doesn´t know the truth, really want to help mother earth.

  31. Dear WWF!
I thank you for the work you do supporting biodiversity and environmental protection. However the creation MessokDja National Park is violating the rights of the Baka people and must not be built or supported.
Please stop stepping over the native people's rights, for it will neither serve the organisation nor the protection of the environment. Native people have taken care of the forest for ages. They know how to live with the land and must not be displaced!

    Respect for de tribal peoples!

  34. WWF, stop supporting the illegal creation of MessokDja National Park, Congo. Turning local communities against you jeopardizes your goal of protecting the area’s wildlife. Listen to Baka people and respect their human rights

    Cordialement,
