Under intense criticism, Yu took everyone by surprise and blamed Ractopamine for his team’s loss. He said that his team members hadn’t eaten meat in 3 weeks out of fear of ingesting Ractopamine, which he said led to lower endurance levels and cramps when playing the US team. However, before losing to the US, the Chinese team had lost three games in a row. Some Internets users thought Ractopamine was totally irrelevant to the loss. Others said they believed the incident highlighted the food security threats facing Chinese. Whatever the reason, the Chinese team lost the game and that is a fact.
