Cheryl Tiegs Says Ashley Graham Promotes Unhealthy Lifestyles

>>SPORTS ILLUSTRATED DECIDED TO
DO SOMETHING PRETTY INTERESTING WHEN IT COMES TO THEIR LATEST
COVER. THEY FEATURED THREE DIFFERENT COVERS WITH DIFFERENT
MODELS. ONE WAS WITH HER ATHLETIC FIGURE, THEN
THEY HAD A TRADITIONAL MODEL, THEN A NONTRADITIONAL ONE.
ASHLEY GRAHAM WHO IS FULL FIGURED GOT A LOT OF PRAISE
BECAUSE NOT ONLY DID SPORTS ILLUSTRATED FOCUS ON ONE BODY
TYPE, THEY ARE TRYING TO MAKE A STATEMENT ABOUT ALL BODY TYPES.
WHETHER YOU ARE ATHLETIC, SKINNY, CURVY, YOU ARE
BEAUTIFUL.>>WELL, IT HELPS THAT
SHE IS BEAUTIFUL.>>YES, ALL THREE OF THEM ARE
BEAUTIFUL. CHERYL TIEGS WHO IS THE TRADITIONAL MODEL FROM BACK IN THE DAY DISAGREES. THERE SHE
IS ON A SPORTS ILLUSTRATED COVER FROM BACK IN THE DAY. SHE
RELEASED A STATEMENT ABOUT WHAT SHE FEELS ABOUT THE ASHLEY
GRAHAM COVER. SHE THINKS IT’S SENDING AN UNHEALTHY MESSAGE. SHE SAYS THE FOLLOWING:
I JUST FIND IT SO INTERESTING THAT SOMEONE WHO IS A TRADITIONAL MODEL IN AN INDUSTRY
THAT HAS LED TO SO MANY UNREALISTIC BODY EXPECTATIONS
THAT WOMEN HAVE ñ ANOREXIA, BULIMIA, AND OTHER EATING DISORDERS, HAS THE NERVE TO LOOK
AT THIS MODEL IS A YOU ARE NOT HEALTHY. THERE ARE WOMEN THAT
LOOK LIKE ASHLEY GRAHAM THAT ARE EXTREMELY HEALTHY. JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE HAS A HIGH
BMI DOESN’T MEAN THAT THEY ARE UNHEALTHY.>>YES, IN FACT THERE IS ONE ON
THE SET. MY DOCTOR SAYS THAT YOU ARE MORBIDLY OBESE, BUT
SHOCKINGLY HEALTHY. THEY ARE ALWAYS FLUMMOXED BY IT. YOU ARE
WAY TOO FAT TO BE HEALTHY, BUT YOU ARE. I KNOW IN GENERAL
OBESITY CAN LEAD TO A SERIES OF ISSUES LIKE DIABETES, SHE IS NOT
OBESE. SHE DOES NOT HAVE HEALTH ISSUES. I MEAN, YOU WANT TO PLAY DOCTOR
WITH HER THAN SENDER TO ONE.>>IF YOU LOOK AT THAT PICTURE
SHE HAS THE SEXIER HIPS. THE THINGS THAT TURN MEN ON IS THE WAIST TO HIP RATIO, AND
SHE HAS A GREAT ONE.>>DR. OZ SAYS THAT HER WAIST
IS JUST NOT SMALL ENOUGH.>>THEY TOOK PLAYBOY MODELS FROM
THE 1960S, AND ONCE FROM THE 90S, THEY ARE MUCH SKINNIER
OVERALL, BUT THEIR KIDS TO WAIST RATIO WAS EXACTLY THE SAME. THAT
IS WHAT TRIGGERS MEN’S MINDS. WOMEN WITH CERTAIN HIP TO WAIST
RATIO ARE THE MOST FERTILE, AND THAT IS FROM MILLIONS OF YEARS OF EVOLUTION, MAKES US WANT TO
HAVE SEX WITH THEM BECAUSE ALL WE WANT TO DO IS PROCREATE. THAT IS WHY SHE IS STILL SEXY
TO MEN, ETC. HIP TO WAIST RATIO IS FANTASTIC.>>SHE IS BEAUTIFUL, WHATEVER.
THE THING I WANT TO BRING UP ABOUT MEN AND WHAT THEY LIKE IS
THAT I FEEL THAT WOMEN HAVE A LOT OF EXPECTATIONS WHEN IT COMES TO THE WAY THEY LOOK.
THERE ARE SOME MEN THAT LAY CURVIER WOMEN, AND SOME THAT LIKE MORE SLENDER BUILD. THEY
ARE ALL SORTS OF THINGS THAT GUYS LIKE. BUT WHAT IRRITATES ME
IS THAT WHENEVER YOU HAVE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT MEN’S BODIES
IT’S A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BALLGAME. LAST YEAR THERE WAS
THIS TRENDING STORY ABOUT THE DAD BOD AND HOW WOMEN LOVED IT.
MEN LET THEMSELVES GO, AND IT TURNS ME ON. MEANT TO TALK
ABOUT WOMEN LIKE THAT. OH YEAH, SHE IS SO HOT
AFTER SHE HAD THAT BABY.>>WELL, SOME GUYS DO.>>VERY FEW. THAT IS A VERY
SPECIFIC FETISH I THINK.>>MEN’S BODIES ARE DISGUSTING,
THEY ARE COVERED IN HAIR AND SWEAT AND FUNK. I DON’T KNOW HOW
WOMEN GET INTO MEN’S BODIES BECAUSE THEY ARE GROSS.>>OH, I AM INTO MEN’S BODIES.>>THANK GOD.>>I HAVE A FRIEND THAT ONE TOLD
US ABOUT HIS GIRLFRIEND. HE SAID SHE HAD A BEAUTIFUL FACE
AND WE WERE ALL LIKE ñ>>IF A GUY’S BODY WAS
SMOOTH AND WAXED ñ>>I LOVE HAIR. I LOVE CHEST
HAIR. I LOVE HAIRY LEGS. OH, I DIDN’T EVEN THINK ABOUT YOU.>>HAIRY CHEST TURNS ME ON, I
THINK THEY ARE SEXY.>>WHAT ABOUT A HAIRY BACK?>>THAT DOES NOT TURN ME ON.
THAT IS WHERE IT STOPS.

  1. women judge men on resources and personality

men judge women on their looks and personality

In the same way men do say, yeah she looks so hot now that she's older fatter and less fertile.

women don't say, yeah he's so much more attractive now that he's taken that pay cut and his 401k has been obliterated due a sharp downturn in the market.

men don't universally become less attractive to women with age because women instinctively demand resources from men, which typically accumulate as said man ages

conversely, the things men instinctively value in women, fertility and physical beauty, diminish over time.

men are just as shallow as women, we simply have differing biological imperatives…. simmer down, folks

  2. I hope all you guys who like the Ashley Graham body type are looking forward to waking up next to a 300 pound chick. Because that's in your future just remember that chubbies attacking Cheryl Tiegs have already blown up to that point and need validation for their non stop eating

  3. She has a pretty face! heavy women still don't look like her so it's just stupid. She has no cellulite and is well proportionate which is unrealistic.

  4. Ashley is beautiful and sexy, and I was a fan of her's even before SI, but the argument I see here – "She's hot, therefore she's healthy" – is bizarre. Health is a question of medical science, while the quality of one's physical appearance is a matter of subjective opinion. One has nothing to do with the other.

William Davis MD writes in his book Wheat Belly: "While some people store fat in their buttocks and thighs, most people collect ungainly fat around the middle. This 'central' or 'visceral' fat is unique: Unlike fat in other body areas, it provokes inflammatory phenomena, distorts insulin responses, and issues abnormal metabolic signals to the rest of the body."

He goes into more detail later in the book, writing: "The extremes of blood sugar and insulin are responsible for growth of fat specifically in the visceral organs. Experienced over and over again, visceral fat accumulates, creating a fat liver, two fat kidneys, a fat pancreas, fat large and small intestines, as well as its familiar surface manifestation, a wheat belly. (Even your heart gets fat, but you can’t see this through the semi-rigid ribs.)

"So the Michelin tire encircling your or your loved one’s waistline represents the surface manifestation of visceral fat contained within the abdomen and encasing abdominal organs, resulting from months to years of repeated cycles of high blood sugar and high blood insulin, followed by insulin-driven fat deposition. Not fat deposition in the arms, buttocks, or thighs, but the saggy ridge encircling the abdomen created by bulging fatty internal organs. (Exactly why disordered glucose-insulin metabolism preferentially causes visceral fat accumulation in the abdomen and not your left shoulder or the top of your head is a question that continues to stump medical science.)

"Buttock or thigh fat is precisely that: buttock or thigh fat—no more, no less. You sit on it, you squeeze it into your jeans, you lament the cellulite dimples it creates. It represents excess calories over caloric expenditure. . . .

"Visceral fat is different. While it might be useful as 'love handles' grasped by your partner, it is also uniquely capable of triggering a universe of inflammatory phenomena. Visceral fat filling and encircling the abdomen of the wheat belly sort is a unique, twenty-four-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week metabolic factory. And what it produces is inflammatory signals and abnormal cytokines, or cell-to-cell hormone signal molecules, such as leptin, resistin, and tumor necrosis factor.4,5 The more visceral fat present, the greater the quantities of abnormal signals released into the bloodstream.

"All body fat is capable of producing another cytokine, adiponectin, a protective molecule that reduces risk for heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension. However, as visceral fat increases, its capacity to produce protective adiponectin diminishes (for reasons unclear).6 The combination of lack of adiponectin along with increased leptin, tumor necrosis factor, and other inflammatory products underlies abnormal insulin responses, diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.7 The list of other health conditions triggered by visceral fat is growing and now includes dementia, rheumatoid arthritis, and colon cancer.8 This is why waist circumference is proving to be a powerful predictor of all these conditions, as well as of mortality.9

"Visceral fat not only produces abnormally high levels of inflammatory signals but is also itself inflamed, containing bountiful collections of inflammatory white blood cells (macrophages).10 The endocrine and inflammatory molecules produced by visceral fat empty (via the portal circulation draining blood from the intestinal tract) directly into the liver, which then responds by producing yet another sequence of inflammatory signals and abnormal proteins."

What part of that sounds "healthy"? I'm not going to pretend that because I'm attracted to Ashley or because she's confident about her body that magically makes her healthy. Of course as a fan I was glad to see her in SI, but that has nothing to do with the question of her health. Additionally, I think that Cheryl's comments were rude and not quite accurate. SI is is promoting Ashley as someone who is sexy. That's what SI Swimsuit is about. Health is a separate issue.

  5. It annoys me when people use "curvy" to mean fat. One can be skinny and have curves. Curves are the shit. Stop denigrating curvy as fat.

  6. We have to take into account that Ashley is grossly overweight, but is blessed in terms of fat distribution. She has very little fat on her face and on her waist, in fact I wouldn't be shocked if she did lipo or used a corset to achieve her look. On most other ladies the fat would be all over the place, forming rolls on her waist and neck, ruining her shape and you'd agree that the lady in question is overweight.

  7. Having a high BMI doesn't mean you're unhealthy? Really Anna? Maybe if you're very muscly that applies, but in all other cases YES, IT IS UNHEALTHY. Stop glorifying obesity.

  8. "Just because someone has a high BMI doesn't mean they're unhealthy" yeah, sure, same goes for low BMI then as well. Glorification of unhealthily high BMI is just as bad as glorifying unhealthily low BMIs. If she were as underweight as she is overweight she would be the subject of so much hate because you literally have to be wafer thin to be underweight, just as you have to be equally unhealthily fat to be considered overweight. There's a reason the 80s supermodels are generally considered the peak of modelling: they had healthy athletic looking bodies unlike the heroin chic of the 90s and fat glorification that seems to be coming in today.

  9. Maybe it's just me, because I'm a skinny guy, but I don't find Ashley Graham's size attractive at least as it appears on that cover. I don't know whether the health risks kick in at her size though.

  10. Evidently TYT know nothing about healthy lifestyle choices, the effects and benefits of proper eating and exercising, and how celebrating "curvy" women is giving those that live in North America (two countries that both have a massive obesity crisis) a lot of support for making poor and unhealthy choices.

  11. Wow I normally do t watch this group since I disagree with a lot of them but I can get with this and support it almost all the way. There is a diffract between unhealthy living and different body types and I am glad they said that in this video to clarify that so that was nice. I don't agree with evolution but that is a different conversation all together. Overall really happy with what they said this time and it was a nice change.

  12. You know what they don't tell you? Ashley Graham is 5'10 and that height matters…She most likely looks much slimier because she's so tall for a woman.

  13. Just because someone is overweight doesn't mean that they're unhealthy. There are just as many skinny people with different health issues as there are heavier people. And your weight or waist size isn't indicative of health. That Ashley girl is beautiful. Far more beautiful than Tiegs ever was even in her hay day and Tiegs is just jealous that Ashley is booking more jobs and is more popular than her ancient ass. And all the Botox in the world isn't going to make Tiegs younger or prettier. When you're so skinny that your hip bones stick out and when you stretch your arms about your head you can see your ribs and the separation of them then that's unhealthy, Ashley is just fine.

  14. I feel like you guys took the wrong angle to this story. It doesn't matter is Ashley Graham is fat. Even if she were obese, her mere existence, and the fact that she's modeling would not promote obesity.

  15. Ashley Graham is sexy as hell on the SI cover. Chrissy Teigen is acting like she sets the standards for women on magazine covers. Nobody said she wasn't allowed to smile at award shows because it gives a bad impression to people with smile challenge disorder

  16. She's shaped like a pear. Pretty face, huge breasts, but definitely carrying more weight than is healthy. If she's fine with that, kudos to her.

  17. Ana claims to be attracted to men with hair on their chests but not on their backs. Ladies, this question is not very scientific, but how representative is she?

  18. woman like dad bods because they are inherently gold diggers! Women are attracted to the stability of the dad bod, not the actual body

  19. This turned into a conversation about judging a woman's body based on what men supposedly like? And it's tiring to hear homophobic statements about the absurdity of heterosexual women being able to see beauty in the male form. Like women are just here to be sexualized without a sense of personal sexuality…Some so-called beautiful people are just plain ugly. True beauty can't be measured and comparing yourself to others is setting yourself up to be living in hell.

  20. People today telling us that Ashleys BMI does not matter are a joke because just a few years ago they used the same BMI argument to criticize the skinny models. Chubbies will resort to anything to validate the 5000 calories they put in their mouths every day.

  21. Cheryl's not wrong…

Ashley Graham is not "full figured"…. She is fat. I mean she is a pretty attractive fat woman.

Obesity is not healthy. There is no arguing that.

  22. Ashley Graham is borderline obese. She is not healthy and is encouraging women who are obese or overweight to stay that way. She is at much higher risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer's, diabetes, gout, IBS etc. The fact she is that overweight signifies what kind of diet she is eating, a diet high in fat, based upon animal products and processed junk food. If she ate a healthy whole food, plant based, vegan diet she would slim down to a healthy weight and still be as beautiful as she is now.

  23. Cheryl Tiegs is right because it is sending the wrong message. All this fat acceptance is doing is encouraging women to be fat, lazy, and unhealthy. We already have an obesity problem among women in western societies. This shit should be an abomination.

  24. There is a big difference between being overweight and being normal

Models aren't hot being just skin and bones… Ashley was way better looking… but there doesn't need to be all of those "fat is hot" BS out there

Keep a balance and promote a balance, not that hard

  25. 0.7 waist to hip ratio! we learn it in psychology (evolutionary reproductive behaviour). it gets pretty annoying the further you read into it hahahahaa

  26. I would choose Ashley over Cheryl any day of the week.
This is the difference between Score and Plaboy.
They both are in the main stream top but at two ends of the spectrum.

  27. Being underweight is unhealthy too, at least no one is eating themselves to death to look like Ashley Graham they're accepting bodies and not starving themselves or forcing themselves to puke.

  28. Health wise Tiegs is right but I feel if your waist is above 35 then it's a problem. I don't believe in fat shaming nor fat acceptance either as it is unhealthy. Ashley Graham is a stunning woman with well proportioned body shape and looks great in the cover. It's also about balance as well. I would want to have a fit toned curvy body though.

  29. Obese is bad health-wise in the future and being able to move around easily-wise at every present moment! But from what I can see here is Ashley is more than within the safety zone.

  30. I think that Ashley is absolutely beautiful and sending a very positive message. I agree with what the anchors are saying overall but I don't agree with the fact that he is validating Ashley only through saying that she appeals to men due to her curves. He is propagating suffocating stereotypes. Her body is beautiful because it is hers and that is true for all women.

  31. I had the great misfortune to have come of age in the USA when chicks like CT were THE standard of beauty. I can say now, that I am happy to see her time as an influencer has passed. These days, CT is just one more contributor to Global Lameness.

  32. Ashley Graham is gorgeous and I have learned to live with my hairless chest, back, arms, legs and face with the exception of some wispy hairs here and there.

  33. There's a reason you don't see a lot of 'full-figured' women in their 70+'s. Either they get skinny or they're very lucky or they die off

  34. It doesn't surprise me in the least that Cheryl Tiegs would spew idiocies about a plus-sized model. She's an idiot. I was hit by a truck over 20 years ago and was in a hospital in Philadelphia, and Cheryl Tiegs was one of the "stars" that came and went around the hospital visiting the sick/injured. (You know, for publicity…) She was STUPID. She asked me what happened to me, and I told her that I was hit by a truck. (I was in a body cast.) She asked me why I was in a body cast. I repeated, "I was hit by a truck." The rest of that mercifully short conversation was just as painfully stupid. And the fact that she sites Dr. Oz as a source for ANYTHING medical is just flat-out retarded.

  35. O.k let me break this down for you coming from a christan man whos a fitnes and boxing trainer first all ashley i beautiful and real a blessing tiegs i would not even almost entertain anything she got to say

  36. Visceral adipose (the fat around your organs) is much more dangerous than Subcutaneous adipose (under the skin fat). You can be fairly thin but have large amounts of visceral fat (often leads to fat skinny person syndrome- when someone is thin but has a guy or "beer belly" that can lead to heart attacks, high blood pressure etc. Meanwhile someone can have larger amounts of subcutaneous fat and look "unhealthy" but have little visceral fat. In those cases the heavier person Is actually at less of a risk of fat related health issues and can be considerably healthier than their "thinner" counterpart

  37. Obesity is forever unhealthy.
    That will never change.
A high BMI is the literal definition of unhealthy and obesity.
    STOP PROMOTING OBESITY

  38. I’m sorry but her body is disgusting. Nobody should ever let their body get that bad. That’s the opposite of what sports illustrated should be featuring on their cover. That’s literally promoting obesity.

  39. Well shes right and science backs her up too, just look at cheryl's covers she looks waaaay more attractive than the shemale and the fatso

  40. Gross! Have you seen Ashely Graham in a bathing suit??? Too much cottage cheese on those fat thighs and big ass. No thanks! These fat chicks are saying "big is fabulous"?? Those are usually the fat bitches that just cannot lose weight. Please leave the modeling for the thin girls.

  41. Stick figure shut up, Ashely has all those delicious curves to explore i would enjoy tasting every square inch of he magnificent curved body.

  42. I’m all for a healthy lifestyle but I think the fact that she used “full figured” implies she’s focusing on appearance more than health
