Argentine teen recovers from coma to pursue his Olympic dream | Heroes of the Future

I’m Richard Kierkegaard, and
I’m 13. I do horse riding, and my dream is to get a medal
in the Olympics. I was born among horses,
and when I was younger, I spent time in the bushes
peeking at how my dad rode. I was in the national team
for 20 consecutive years. Good. Good landing! Perfect! Winning an Olympic medal,
I think that in that moment, my family and my dad
will be really proud of me. One, two, three, four. Very good! From the accident
up to going back to compete, it took a month. And all the doctors there said that it was a veritable
miracle. I showed everyone that I was stronger
than they expected, and that I can overcome
anything. Let’s go! I get along with horses, they are more than pets,
above all to me. Whenever I have free time, or
I’m bored, I come and see them, and ride without a saddle,
take them out to pasture. When I’m not horse jumping,
I’m jumping on my own feet. I love doing that. I do it every time I can! Today, we’ll start off
on the first hurdle, we’re going to jump
coming in from the right side. Shorten the trot! Good! It didn’t switch the hind leg,
just the front, son. I believe that he’ll be an
Olympic athlete soon. He has it in his mind
to become an Olympic athlete, and I don’t know if it is going
to be in Tokyo or when, but he is on the path. Good. Up! Up! Higher, backward
step! Getting to the Olympics, I think will be an honour
for my country. Very good! Don’t bend forward so much
again when you land! Keep looking forward! Perfect. The moment I would be able
to win an Olympic medal is a moment I imagine I would
be the happiest in the world. My whole life,
I have strived for that. I would like him
to have a great career that allows him to be
one of the best in the world.
